A prominent theme presented in this volume is that symptoms in the bereaved individual have meaning-making significance and that meaning reconstruction in response to loss is the central process in grieving. More scientifically oriented readers will find comprehensive discussions of research programs supporting these tenets, particularly those linking grief with responses to loss involved in trauma. Practitioners will find clinically informed models and ample case descriptions to bridge concepts with real people suffering real loss. All will find new paradigms for approaching loss and reconstruction of meaning in a respectful, revealing way that has significance both personally and professionally. This book introduces readers to philosophies of hospitality and tourism. It provides insights into classic philosophical concepts and explains how these can inform the actions of tourism stakeholders, practitioners, hosts and tourists. The volume explores four main areas: the nexus of philosophy with tourism and hospitality; the philosophy of giving in hospitality and tourism; the receiving-end, such as emotional tourist experiences, happiness and overtourism, including the notion of ‘gluttony’; and philosophical issues related to tourism development, such as the spirit of places and thanatourism. The discussion of philanthropy within the context of tourism is a strength of the book and will be important in a post-Covid-19 tourism industry. The book will be of interest to students, researchers and practitioners in tourism and hospitality.

Games And Bereavement written by Sabine Harrer and has been published by transcript Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-31 with Social Science categories.

How can videogames portray love and loss? Games and Bereavement answers this question by looking at five videogames and carrying out a participatory design study with grievers. Sabine Harrer highlights possible connections between grief and videogames, arguing that game design may help make difficult personal feelings tangible. After a brief literary review of grief concepts and videogame theory, the book deep-dives into examples of tragic inter-character relationships from videogame history. Building on these examples, the book presents a case study on pregnancy loss as a potential grief experience that can be validated through game design dialogue.

Life Death written by Jacques Derrida and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-19 with Philosophy categories.

The seventh in our series of Derrida's seminars, Life Death provides interdisciplinary reflections on the relationship of life and death—now in paperback. One of Jacques Derrida’s most provocative works, Life Death deconstructs a deeply rooted dichotomy of Western thought: life and death. In rethinking the relationship between life and death, Derrida undertakes a multi-disciplinary analysis of a range of topics across philosophy, linguistics, and the life sciences. Derrida gave this seminar over fourteen sessions between 1975 and 1976 at the École normale supérieure in Paris to prepare students for the agrégation, a notoriously competitive exam. The theme for the exam that year was “Life and Death,” but Derrida made a critical modification to the title by dropping the coordinating conjunction. The resulting title of Life Death poses a philosophical question about the close relationship between life and death. Through close readings of Freudian psychoanalysis, the philosophy of Nietzsche and Heidegger, French geneticist François Jacob, and epistemologist Georges Canguilhem, Derrida argues that death must be considered neither as the opposite of life nor as the truth or fulfillment of it, but rather as that which both limits life and makes it possible. Derrida thus not only questions traditional understandings of the relationship between life and death but also ultimately develops a new way of thinking about what he calls “life death.”

Drinking Against Death written by Louis D. Nebelsick and has been published by Archeobooks this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-31 with History categories.

The nine interrelated chapters in this book aim to identify and describe the iconographies and trace fossils of ritual and religion in late prehistoric Europe - to infuse them with meaning, celebrate their complexity and integrate the ideas, which they evoke into the rich tapestry of historically transmitted ancient European and Mediterranean ideology, mythology and ritual. This book explores libation and feasting, engendered patterns of communication, ritual drama and iconographic creativity. Case studies range from 13th century BC Bavarian ostentatious graves, 9th century Scandinavian bog hoards, 8th century Austrian women's chambered tombs, 7th century Lusatian children's graves to 6th century BC Scythian kurgans from the Ukraine. A thick description of ancient European ideology emerges demonstrating that non-literate communities were developing surprisingly vibrant and sophisticated solutions to the problems posed by transcending death, revering the ancestors and communicating between earth and eternity.
