In the undulating embrace of the Himalayas, the majestic Yamuna River embarks on a profound journey, traversing through the rugged terrains of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana. This aqueous odyssey, however, is not merely a geographical spectacle; it unfolds a tale of paramount importance - the dynamic Water Quality Status of River Yamuna. The narrative begins at strategic junctures: from the Chakrata Road in Dhalipur, Uttarakhand (S-1) to the Old Hamida in Yamuna Nagar, Upper Segment (S-7). Here, the river's essence is encapsulated, revealing the intricate nuances of its water quality. Amidst these locations, where waters echo the footprints of industrial and tourist activities, arises the imperative to scrutinize and comprehend the river's aqueous soul. During the meticulous study conducted from 2020 to 2021, the changing seasons acted as a silent orchestrator, steering the rhythm of the investigation. From the pre-monsoon murmurs to the post-monsoon tranquility, the Water Quality Status of River Yamuna unfolds its melody. The methodology employed transcends the ordinary, employing the dip and grab sampling techniques at a precise depth of 20 centimeters. Clean containers, guardians of purity, cradle the samples, meticulously marked with details ranging from the sampling location's name to the ambient temperature. The findings, a mosaic of revelations, transcend the mundane. Seasonal shifts expose the river's vulnerability, and the impact of industrial effluents leaves an indelible mark on its aquatic integrity. Yet, amidst these challenges, the study becomes a beacon of hope, offering insights to fortify environmental guardianship. In this exploration of liquid realms, the Water Quality Status of River Yamuna emerges not just as a scientific inquiry but a fervent call to safeguard a lifeline, urging collective commitment to nurture and preserve the aqueous legacy that courses through the heart of the Himalayas.

Cities have been known by the rivers that flow nearby-Landon and Thames, Rome and the Traverse, Paris and Seince, Banaras and Ganga. The Delhi and Yamuna sound unfamiliar, although the river is the main source of water supply to the city and plays most crucial role in its growth. The increase of population and activity in the Yamuna watershed is placing increasingly exigent demands upon its ecology.

Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is an approach that promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources, in order to maximize economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems. Without public interest and participation, successful implementation of IWRM plans for river basin cannot be possible. Further to this, management at the watershed level to assure water supplies to support livelihood (i.e. domestic water, irrigation, industries, etc.) and sustainable groundwater development requires water augmentation through water conservation structures, and pollution control will also play a vital role. In India, because of limited period of rainfall during Monsoon (i.e. three to four months), water conservation and rainwater harvesting have been practiced since ancient days in order to meet water demands throughout the year. These structures are generally constructed and operated through the public participation. Keeping in view of the importance of public partnership, the role of public partnership in context of water-related awareness and practices has been investigated in different parts of the Yamuna River basin. The investigation evaluates the impact of various water conservation devices on livelihood; compares the performance of recently developed water conservation structures with ancient structures; examines spatial variation of water-related problems in the basin; and proposes an institutional setup for effective governance.

Water is of the prime importance for all the human activities and so its management and conservation is most essential. In this present age, when every man is aware of the importance of sustainable environment, training the mass in environment management is the need of hours. It is necessary to change people s attitude towards the importance of water. A new environmental behaviour is necessary, in which quantitative demands and confrontation must be replaced by qualitative appreciation and co-ordination. This will hopefully lead us into a new era of human harmony, which can bring changes to the well being of life on the earth. The book presents the most important aspects of pollution, conservation and management of aquatic environment. Factual studies and research-based recommendations are also included in this book. Water Quality Indices written by Tabassum Abbasi and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-10 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book covers water quality indices (WQI) in depth – it describes what purpose they serve, how they are generated, what are their strengths and weaknesses, and how to make the best use of them. It is a concise and unique guide to WQIs for chemists, chemical/environmental engineers and government officials. Whereas it is easy to express the quantity of water, it is very difficult to express its quality because a large number of variables determine the water quality. WQIs seek to resolve the difficulty by translating a set of a large number of variables to a one-digit or a two-digit numeral. They are essential in communicating the status of different water resources in terms of water quality and the impact of various factors on it to policy makers, service personnel, and the lay public. Further they are exceedingly useful in the monitoring and management of water quality. With the importance of water and water quality increasing exponentially, the importance of this topic is also set to increase enormously because only with the use of indices is it possible to assess, express, communicate, and monitor the overall quality of any water source. Provides a concise guide to WQIs: their purpose and generation Compares existing methods and WQIs and outlines strengths and weaknesses Makes recommendations on how the indices should be used and under what circumstances they apply

Celebrated as an aquatic form of divinity for thousands of years, the Yamuna is one of India’s most sacred rivers. A prominent feature of north Indian culture, the Yamuna is conceptualized as a goddess flowing with liquid love—yet today it is severely polluted, the victim of fast-paced industrial development. This fascinating and beautifully written book investigates the stories, theology, and religious practices connected with this river goddess collected from texts written over several millennia, as well as from talks with pilgrims, priests, and worshippers who frequent the pilgrimage sites and temples located on her banks. David L. Haberman offers a detailed analysis of the environmental condition of the river and examines how religious practices are affected by its current pollution. He introduces Indian river environmentalism, a form of activism that is different in many ways from its western counterpart. River of Love in an Age of Pollution concludes with a consideration of the broader implications of the Yamuna’s plight and its effect on worldwide efforts to preserve our environment.
