Along with the Tale of Genji and One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each, The Tales of Ise is considered one of the three most important works of Japanese literature. A poem-tale collection from the early Heian period, it contains many stories of amorous adventures, faithful friendship and travels in exile, framing the exquisite poems at the work's heart. The Tales of Ise has influenced waka, Noh, tales and diaries since the time it was written, and is still the source of endless inspiration in novels, poetry, manga and cartoons. This volume has been translated by Peter MacMillan and includes a preface by the renowned Japanologist Donald Keene. Water. It’s in nearly every book of the Bible! The world was made from water and was flooded by it. People were both killed and saved by it. Life requires water. It was in Eden and will be in the New Jerusalem. Moses, David, and most of the Old Testament prophets spoke about it, as did Jesus, Peter, and John. So why has no one yet figured out what all this water talk is about? God is revealing something exciting using water as his means of communication. In this book nearly all the uses of water throughout the Bible have been examined and organized into common categories. The mentions of water have ramifications for other major biblical teachings such as on the work of the Holy Spirit, salvation, and baptism. This work unveils something that has remained hidden to most until now: a biblical theology of water.

River Jordan written by Rachel Havrelock and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-10-27 with Religion categories.
As the site of several miracles in the Jewish and Christian traditions, the Jordan is one of the world’s holiest rivers. It is also the major political and symbolic border contested by Israelis and Palestinians. Combining biblical and folkloric studies with historical geography, Rachel Havrelock explores how the complex religious and mythological representations of the river have shaped the current conflict in the Middle East. Havrelock contends that the intractability of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict stems from the nationalist myths of the Hebrew Bible, where the Jordan is defined as a border of the Promised Land. Both Israelis and Palestinians claim the Jordan as a necessary boundary of an indivisible homeland. Examining the Hebrew Bible alongside ancient and modern maps of the Jordan, Havrelock chronicles the evolution of Israel’s borders based on nationalist myths while uncovering additional myths that envision Israel as a bi-national state. These other myths, she proposes, provide roadmaps for future political configurations of the nation. Ambitious and masterful in its scope, River Jordan brings a fresh, provocative perspective to the ongoing struggle in this violence-riddled region.
