“Love is beautiful when it blossoms, but how can it flourish when it’s sometimes fed things it doesn’t need in order to grow? Fear, trust issues, anger and pain have no business inside of love’s gates, so what happens when these uninvited trespassers are allowed to roam freely for a while?” – Somewhere Between Love & Misunderstanding We’ve all heard the story of two lovers that allow their insecurities and their inability to communicate to take them to a place where they don’t want to leave the relationship but they don’t want to stay either.Written by spoken word poets, Keaidy Selmon and Marvin Wilson Jr., Somewhere Between Love & Misunderstanding tells that familiar story using poetry. Will our two lovers be able to find their way back to love, or will pride and fear claim defeat over yet another relationship?

Beyond the Clouds of Misunderstanding is a collection of poetry and spoken word by C. Gavin Skeen. Skeen started writing poetry in 1991 while in high school, and soon was also performing at open mics. While in college at NYU, as a BFA student in Dramatic Writing, Skeen continued performing at open mics around the New York City; including at the then fledgling venue Bar 13, and at the famous Nuyorican Poets Cafe. The book, named after the title poem, was originally scheduled to be published in 2005, until a dispute with the then publisher led Skeen to shelve the project and walk away. Not only did he halt the publication, but he ceased performing as well. But even as Skeen pursued career opportunities in media analytics, he continued to write. Many years later, a chance encounter with another burgeoning poet inspired Skeen to revisit his shelved project, taking advantage of the advances in self-publishing through Kindle. The framework for this publication of Beyond the Clouds of Misunderstanding remains mostly true to the original. A brief third section of poems has been added, including a few poems that Skeen has come to believe should have been included with the original manuscript. Some additional back matter has been added as well, providing some insight for the interested reader into the tribulations that led to this edition.

Mexican poet, teacher and translator Coral Bracho was born in Mexico City in 1951. She has published several books, two in English thanks to the brilliant poet-translator Forrest Gander, who has put this composite volume together, the first time Bracho has been extensively published in the UK. An extensive selection from Bracho's earlier work, which 'altered the landscape of Mexican poetry' (World Literature Today), is accompanied by the entirety of her new book, of which Gander writes: 'Although composed of individual poems, It Must Be a Misunderstanding is really a deeply affecting book-length work whose force builds as the poems cycle through their sequences. The "plot" follows a general trajectory—from early to late Alzheimer's—with non-judgmental affection and compassionate watchfulness. We come to know an opinionated, demonstrative elderly woman whose resilience, in the face of her dehiscent memory, becomes most clear in her adaptive strategies. The poems involve us in the mind's bafflement and wonder, in its creative quick-change adjustments, and in the emotional drama that draws us across the widening linguistic gaps that reroute communication. Bracho's poems have philosophical and psychological underpinnings even when they are descriptive. Her work has always managed to mix abstraction and sensuality, but in this book the two merge into a particularly resonant combination. 'We are inside a mind, maybe many minds, considering a mystery with signal attentiveness, openness, and love.'

Each of the three collections in this anthology rehearses the myriad ways we are misunderstood and misrepresented by others and ourselves.

Why Poetry written by Matthew Zapruder and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-15 with Literary Criticism categories.

An impassioned call for a return to reading poetry and an incisive argument for poetry’s accessibility to all readers, by critically acclaimed poet Matthew Zapruder In Why Poetry, award-winning poet Matthew Zapruder takes on what it is that poetry—and poetry alone—can do. Zapruder argues that the way we have been taught to read poetry is the very thing that prevents us from enjoying it. In lively, lilting prose, he shows us how that misunderstanding interferes with our direct experience of poetry and creates the sense of confusion or inadequacy that many of us feel when faced with it. Zapruder explores what poems are, and how we can read them, so that we can, as Whitman wrote, “possess the origin of all poems,” without the aid of any teacher or expert. Most important, he asks how reading poetry can help us to lead our lives with greater meaning and purpose. Anchored in poetic analysis and steered through Zapruder’s personal experience of coming to the form, Why Poetry is engaging and conversational, even as it makes a passionate argument for the necessity of poetry in an age when information is constantly being mistaken for knowledge. While he provides a simple reading method for approaching poems and illuminates concepts like associative movement, metaphor, and negative capability, Zapruder explicitly confronts the obstacles that readers face when they encounter poetry to show us that poetry can be read, and enjoyed, by anyone.
