The Internet has provided hate groups with a relatively easy and cost-effective way to make their rhetoric of hatred available to an audience of millions. Realizing the Internet's communication potential, hate groups have posted an increasing number of online "hate sites," websites containing content that disparages a particular class of people. As the number of Internet hate sites has increased, the U.S. government has been called upon to ban these controversial websites. This comprehensive study explores whether there is a First Amendment basis for regulating U.S.-based hate sites. It identifies the various First Amendment tests developed by the federal courts for assessing the constitutionality of both non-mass-mediated hateful speech and Internet content, then examines a sample of U.S.-based hate sites to ascertain whether they contain constitutionally proscribable content under those standards. The study is unique in that it examines websites maintained by several different kinds of U.S.-based hate groups: Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazi, racist Skinhead, Christian Identity, Black separatist, neo-Confederate, White conservative, and pro-Jewish. Untangling the Web of Hate: Are Online "Hate Sites" Deserving of First Amendment Protection? is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to learn more about the content and constitutionality of Internet hate sites.

-- why far-right groups are growing and becoming more dangerous -- how white supremacist groups target youth, the unemployed and convicts for recruitment -- and how they have infiltrated the armed forces -- what governments and law enforcement agencies can do to combat this problemTheir faces are twisted into masks of hate; their mission is to destroy. It's just the nightly news again, showing the latest actions of another neo-Nazi group in Germany venting their frustrations on newly arrived immigrants. It couldn't happen here in Canada. Or could it?Web of Hate argues that it could happen -- in fact, it is happening -- in a country where we pride ourselves on our tolerance of all races, religions and lifestyles. In a book that is explosive in its revelations and meticulous and original in its investigative research, Warren Kinsella documents the actions of far-right groups across Canada, from the Ku Klux Klan and Heritage Front to the Aryan Nations and racist skinheads. He profiles key leaders such as Wolfgang Droege, Terry Long, Ernst Zundel and Doug Christie, showing that it is not just their attacks on native peoples, Jews, Sikhs, homosexuals and pro-choice activists that make these hate-mongers so deadly; it is their ability to circumvent the law, to infiltrate more moderate political parties and the armed forces, and to join forces with their German and U.S. counterparts.Using first-hand interviews -- from new recruits at a paramilitary training camp and an upper-middle-class, young but powerful new racist minister, to skinheads who were at the Oka standoff -- Kinsella reveals that far-right groups, though small in numbers, are increasingly sophisticated andeffective in promoting their messages of hate.Controversial and disturbing, Web of Hate will awaken Canadians to the reality of the far right in this country.

Fanaticism, Racism, and Rage Online is a critical exploration of digital hate culture and its myriad infiltrations into the modern online community. The book examines radical movements that have emerged both on the fringes of the Internet, as well as throughout the web’s most popular spaces where extremist voices now intermix with mainstream politics and popular culture. This investigation brings to light the different forms of extremist culture on the web, from the blatant hate websites, to the much more invasive faux-social networks, racist political blogs, and pseudo-scientific domains.

Web of Hate is a story of a young woman who's hatred of an older woman, which causes her to set out to destroy the life of her enemy, not realising that her own worst enemy is herself. On the way to that end she kills and kills again; she becomes involved in drug importation and is linked to a second series of killing along the south coast of England. The story takes place in various areas of the UK but begins in Cambridge 18 months after the trials dealing with the abduction, rape and death of 9 year old Amy Foster, followed by the settling up of Amy's Place in Cambridge (see House of Pain). DCI Fred Cooper finds that he not only has a serial killer on his hands but he also has police corruption to deal with as well. Cooper, Shepherd and Lennon must all tread very carefully as they find their way through the huge web of hate that had been built up over a number of years.
