Weltkrieg, Note: 2, Philipps-Universitat Marburg, Veranstaltung: Nationalsozialistische Aussenpolitik 1933-1939, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der vorliegenden Hausarbeit wird das deutsch-amerikanische Verhaltnis in den Jahren von 1933 bis 1941 untersucht. Das deutsch-amerikanische Verhaltnis in diesem Zeitraum kann in drei Phasen eingeteilt werden. Die erste Phase begann mit der Machtubernahme Hitlers. In ihr wurde die deutsch-amerikanische Kooperation, die seit 1921 bestanden hatte, abgebrochen und es entstand ein Verhaltnis gegenseitigen Misstrauens. Besonders die Vereinigten Staaten hatten Vorbehalte zum neuen" Deutschland. Hierauf folgte die zweite Phase ab 1935, die gekennzeichnet war durch ein stetiges Abrucken voneinander hin zu einer noch nicht offenen aber dennoch deutlichen Opposition. 1934 schien es zunachst, als wurden sich die USA aus Europa zuruckziehen. Doch warum hielten sich die Vereinigten Staaten gerade in dieser Periode des deutschen Aufrustens und Erstarkens zuruck, wo es doch zu dieser Zeit relativ leicht gewesen ware, Hitler seine Grenzen klar aufzuzeigen? Hatte Washington Frankreich nicht den Rucken starken konnen, als es eine hartere Gangart gegenuber Deutschland forderte? Die dritte und damit letzte Phase schliesslich bestand aus einer eskalierenden Feindschaft, die schliesslich in der Kriegserklarung Hitlers an die USA ihren Hohepunkt fand. Doch wieso ging Hitler, der doch den Ersten Weltkrieg sonst als Lehre ansah, das Risiko ein, Amerika wie schon 1917 auf Seiten der Alliierten in den Krieg zu ziehen? Die These schliesslich, dass Hitler keine klare Amerikakonzeption gehabt habe und daher die USA in seinen politischen Planungen als einen zu vernachlassigenden Faktor dargestellt habe, soll widerlegt werden."

The reign of Pope Gregory VII (1073-85), who gave his name to an era of Church reform, is critically important in the history of the medieval church and papacy. Full account is taken of his turbulent relations with King Henry IV of Germany, from his first deposition and excommunication in 1076, to the absolution at Canossa and the imposition of a second sentence in 1080. Pope Gregory was also a contemporary of William the Conqueror, and, as the author shows, fully supported his conquest of England. Gregory VII is presented as an individual whose deep inner belief in iustitia (righteousness) did not waver in the face of new circumstances, although his broad outlook underwent changes. Deeply committed to the traditions of the past and especially to those of Pope Gregory the Great, his reign prepared the way for an age of strong papal monarchy in the western Church.
