Human heritage is an endless mine of knowledge, skills, ethos and accomplishments, which visualize and examine the power of human creativity and innovation throughout the history. The contributions cast an insight into the human psyche to perceive its Weltanschauung, and its way of thinking and making artefacts associated with knowledge, existence and identity in the context of other existing systems in the world. They demonstrate the diversity of topics as well as the state-of-the art of interdisciplinary approaches that participants of the Humboldt-Kolleg use in their research on cultural heritage, and confirm, once again, that the strengths of the Alexander von Humboldt Network should be celebrated and honoured. The present volume invites us to seek more novel research approaches that aim towards an understanding of the complex nature of human inheritance.

The information flow about crises and conflicts is highly selective, the media only focus on a few major conflicts at a time. Many conflicts are neglected, others soon forgotten after the fighting ends. This book fills the gaps and offers a systematic overview of all crises and conflicts in and among states since 1945 and traces the global trends of conflict development. Based on the broad empirical basis of the Conflict Simulation Model KOSIMO, Pfetsch and Rohloff use an integrated approach to cover many forms and types of political conflicts, both peaceful and violent.

We Never Sleep written by Kathrin Röggla and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Fiction categories.

In this masterfully constructed docu-novel Kathrin Röggla ventures into the dysfunctional, self-contained and self-destructive universe of a New Economy trade convention. Here, the horizon of human potential for feeling, experience, and identity is limited by the language and logic of business models. Through a hypnotically rhythmic sequencing of polyphonic dialogs, this explosive novel reveals how the models of efficiency and performance used to quantify business success turn destructive when used to measure human worth, evaluate human experience. Through the conversations of six representative figures, the IT supporter, the online editor, the senior associate, the key account manager, the partner and the intern, the reader is led deeper into the psychological desert of a labour force that has internalised values inimical to both its individual and collective survival. The pressure to perform is driven by the pace of the twenty-four hour work cycle and the frenzied competition motivated by the first signs of collapse and panic in the New Economy boom. Going days without sleep is a point of honour. There is no quitting time. The novel is both a darkly comedic and deeply disturbing view of the work world in the digital age.
