Alfred Tetens, geboren 1835 in Wilster, erzaehlt in diesem Band sein Seemannsleben in der zweiten Haelfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Von Kindheit an zog es ihn zum Wasser. Von Jugend auf fuhr er zur See, zunaechst vor dem Mast, dann als Steuermann und bald danach weltweit als Kapitaen. Er war auf Segelschiffen auf allen Ozeanen zu Hause. Seine groesste Leistung verbrachte er in den Gewaessern der Suedsee, wo er zunaechst in englischen Diensten, dann für den Hamburger Reeder Godeffroy im Bereich der Karolinen Handel trieb. Nach einem tragischen Unfall war er als Wasserschoot erster nautischer Beamter der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg. Dieses Buch ist nicht nur ein spannender Seefahrerbericht, sondern bietet auch gute Einblicke in die Geschichte der Seefahrt des 19. Jahrhunderts. Aus Rezensionen: Ich bin immer wieder begeistert von der "Gelben Buchreihe." Die Baende reissen einen einfach mit und vermitteln einem das Gefuehl, mitten in den Besatzungen der Schiffe zu sein. Inzwischen habe ich ca. 20 Baende erworben und freue mich immer wieder, wenn ein neues Buch erscheint. Oder: Saemtliche von Juergen Ruszkowski aus Hamburg herausgegebene Buecher sind absolute Highlights der Seefahrts-Literatur. Dieser Band macht da keine Ausnahme. Sehr interessante und abwechselungsreiche Themen aus verschiedenen Zeitepochen, die mich von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite gefesselt haben! Man kann nur staunen, was der Mann in seinem Ruhestand schon veroeffentlich hat. Alle Achtung!

Territorial use rights in fisheries (TURFs) have existed for centuries. They are widely available for sedentary resources. In addition, however, they have appeared in a number of marine fisheries in traditional communities and are also being acquired, legally or extra-legally, for such techniques as floating fish aggregation devices and other forms of fixed gear. TURFs provide interesting opportunities for dealing with two major aspects of fisheries management -efficient production of net benefits and equitable distribution of benefits. Further exploration of the possible adoption of TURFs as a means for management seem desirable. This paper explores some of the definitional elements of TURFs and the distinctions between territorial rights and common property. It also exercises some of the conditions that may have an effect on the creation and maintenance of TURFs. And it discusses briefly some of the implications for equitable distribution of benefits.
