This Environmental Assessment report forms part of the planning for the sustainable allocation of water for the environment by presenting the results of a flow-related risk assessment of ecosystems within the Wet Tropics Water Resource Plan (WRP) area. The risk assessment results were based on a comprehensive process that; identified the surface and groundwater dependent ecological assets, defined their critical water requirements, and quantified the comparative risk to those ecosystems between water management scenarios.

The purpose of this report is to present the results of a comparative environmental risk assessment between the scenario as described in the Wet Tropics WRP Environmental Assessment (DSITIA 2013a) and the supplementary water resource development scenario proposed in the draft WRP. That scenario assumes full use of existing entitlements and the unallocated water demands proposed in the draft water resource plan. This case simulates the flow regime with water extraction from the catchment which assumes all existing entitlements are installed, operational and extracting water from the system, regardless of their current level of use and unallocated water volumes are being taken.

The plan provides for the sustainable management of water for addressing Water Resource (Wet Tropics) Plan 2013 outcomes by (a) specifying water sharing and trading rules that are consistent with the water allocation security objectives and environmental flow objectives specified in the Water Resource (Wet Tropics) Plan 2013; and (b) providing monitoring and reporting arrangements to assist in the ongoing assessment of whether the provisions in this plan have contributed to the achievement of the outcomes stated in the Water Resource (Wet Tropics) Plan 2013. The overview report summarises the key provisions of the accompanying draft ROP.

Decision-Making in Water Resource Policy and Management: An Australian Perspective presents the latest information in developing new decision-making processes. Topics covered include key aspects of water resources planning, recent water resource policy changes in irrigation, urban, and environmental considerations, the evolution of a water market, a number of case studies that provide real examples of improved decision-making, transfer of the Australian experience overseas, and challenges for the future. Many countries are experiencing major water scarcity problems which will likely intensify with the continued impacts of climate change. In response to this challenge, there is increased worldwide focus on the development of more sustainable and integrated water resource policies. The Australian experience over the past three decades has led to major improvements in the decision-making processes in water resources policy and management, particularly in response to drought and climate change, providing a great model on which other nations can use and adapt. This information is essential to early to mid-career practitioners engaged in policy, planning and operational roles in all fields of water resource policy and management, and catchment management. Summarizes key results from three decades of changes in Australian water resource policy Illustrates how Australian knowledge is being used in other countries and how this might be expanded Provides international practitioners with real examples of where and how the Australian knowledge is assisting in other situations

Hydrology And Water Management In The Humid Tropics written by Michael Bonell and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-09-02 with Nature categories.

Environmental problems in the humid tropical regions, where the focus is on the fate and management of the surviving rainforest and climate change, are attracting increasing attention internationally. The distribution of tropical rainfall is highly variable, and in many regions the supply of potable water is inadequate. By the end of the century one-third of the world's population will be living in the humid tropics. This book considers all aspects of hydrology in the humid tropics. The first four parts of the book cover the physical basis of hydrology in the humid tropics: climatology, meteorology, process hydrology, sedimentation, water quality and freshwater ecology. This is followed by extensive treatment of the human and societal issues: land-use changes, water resource management, and rural and urban water supply in the tropical regions. The book is a uniquely integrated summary of hydrology in the tropics.

Integrated Resource and Environmental Management (IREM) can be defined as both a management process and a philosophy, that takes into account the many values associated with natural resources within a particular area. This book presents an overview and history of natural resource management, from a global perspective. It discusses the challenges facing IREM by examining issues such as conflict, property rights and the role of science in the management of natural resource. It also addresses the definition andapplication of IREM from several different contexts, including real-world applications, planning frameworks, and complex systems. It provides a comprehensive aid in natural resource decision-making within the context of the real world.
