This is a mostly true story of the greatest gold discovery in world history. The greatest amount of gold ever produced in world history came from the Witwatersrand Basin in South Africa. The deposit was discovered in 1886. Some 1.5 billion ounces of gold have been produced from the district, 40% of all the gold ever mined. In 1888 in the Pilbara Basin of Western Australia a young lad out chopping wood for his fire picked up a stone to throw at a crow who had designs on the young man's lunch. The Pilbara Basin is a similar age formation to that of the Witwatersrand Basin. Same rocks, same age, same potential. The stone turned out to be gold. The discovery began a gold rush in Western Australia that continues to this day. The insider happened to have stumbled into the midst of the discovery all the way from it being an interesting theory to exploration and drilling right to the first gold pour. To this day we don't know what became of the crow.

Every great gold discovery has a unique element that made it a reality. At Grasberg, miners solved "unbeatable terrain challenges", accessing a vertical mountain peak to mine one of the world's largest copper - gold deposits. For the Klondike Gold Rush, a prospector shook gold nuggets out of a streamside bush while building a fire to cook his food.At Mongolia's Oyu Tolgoi, a legendary minefinder spent his last dollar drilling one last hole. In South Africa's Witwatersrand, a simple prospector's find belied the fact that, instead of a short life, a gigantic mineralized deposit would be tapped, giving up 40% of all the gold ever mined. But that was then...What if now, in a bone-dry portion of Australia, a mammoth gold deposit defying superlatives is on the cusp of being born? The elements? A rogue-thinking geologist, a cantankerous newsletter analyst and a financial heavyweight addicted to long-shot asymmetric bets looked at "the evidence" in a way no one else had done before. And proposed a new theory that - not unlike the Wits - a massive multiple layered, wildly-profitable goldfield lay before them that could be mined. For decades. In your hands is The Inside Story of the Greatest Gold Discovery in History! David H. Smith

A #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER The newest crime novel sensation: In this shocking and suspenseful psychological thriller, a police detective must confront a monstrous evil that forces her to question how much suffering one person can inflict upon another before creating a monster. In a Stockholm city park, police discover the mutilated body of a young boy. Detective Superintendent Jeanette Kihlberg heads the investigation, battling an apathetic prosecutor and a bureaucratic police force unwilling to devote resources to solving the murder of a nameless immigrant child. But with the discovery of two more children's corpses, it becomes clear that a serial killer is at large. Jeanette turns to therapist Sofia Zetterlund for her expertise in psychopathic perpetrators and their lives become increasingly intertwined, professionally and personally. As they draw closer to the truth about the killings--working together but, ultimately, each on her own--we come to understand that these murders are only the most obvious evidence of a hellishly insidious evil woven deep into Swedish society. As viscerally dramatic as it is psychologically intense, The Crow Girl is a tale of almost unfathomably heinous deeds, and of the profound damage--and the equally profound need for revenge--left in their wake.
