People like to wear masks all the time, and I'm not talking about the masks we're wearing now due to the pandemic. I'm talking about the masks we put on when we are interacting with others. We hide who we really are and we transform into a different person depending on the setting. We put on a mask when we meet relatives, we put on a mask at our work, and we put on a mask on when we are with friends (most of them). And the only time we are not wearing a mask is when we are alone. Not all of us do it in the same degree, and there are different reasons for doing it. But the most common is that we are afraid of being criticized and judged. So we look for acceptance in others and we conform. We are not sure of what our real selves will be like, so we become what we think will be liked more. If we are introverts, we change a bit to seem more extravert. If we are weird, we become more "normal" to fit in. We hide what makes us unique and authentic because we are not sure others will like it. And many times we are being rewarded for it. People seem to approve of this new, upgraded version of you, so you keep the small change. Then people expect you to behave like that, so you have to keep the facade. And then you add a bit more, and a bit more, until you are different enough to exhaust yourself by playing this role. I believe this is the main reason some people exhaust themselves in social settings. The mask needs energy to stay in place. This is not the same as being casual and carefree with friends, and more formal and careful at work settings. This is normal. In this book, you will learn how to hide part of your personality based on the premise of approval. Stop pretending to be someone you are not. It is ok to be yourself. The only one that needs to accept you is YOU!Peace & Love

You can fool some of the people all of the time—but wouldn’t you rather really know what you’re talking about? Why are conservatives on the “right” and liberals on the “left”? What is an archetype? Most people drop these and other cultural references in conversation all the time without really knowing much about them. But with this witty, information-packed book, you can quickly bone up on the actual facts behind the multitude of data, events, and words that come at you each day—and that you’ve been casually bandying about without really understanding. Here are invaluable explanations of a wide range of topics that are assumed to be common knowledge, from deciphering newsspeak (What is a spin doctor?) to psychobabble (What’s the difference between the ego and the id?) to cyberlingo (What is cyberlingo?); from the supposedly obvious (What makes cholesterol good or bad?) to the deceptively simple (What is a formula race car?). Perfect as a quick reference tool, for browsing, or simply for sharing impressive, newfound knowledge with family and friends, this handbook will endow you with genuine cultural literacy in just a few hours of fun-filled reading.

Life S Too Short To Pretend You Re Not Religious written by David Dark and has been published by Broadleaf Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-13 with Social Science categories.

We can't just be done with religion, argues David Dark. The fact of religion is the fact of us. Religion is the witness of everything we're up to--for better or worse. David Dark is one of today's most respected thinkers, public intellectuals, and cultural critics at the intersection of faith and culture. Since its original release, Dark's Life's Too Short to Pretend You're Not Religious has become essential reading for those engaged in the conversation on religion in contemporary American society. Now, Dark returns to his classic text and offers us a revised, expanded, and reframed edition that reflects a more expansive understanding, employs inclusive language, and tackles the most pressing issues of the day. With the same keen powers of cultural observation, candor, and wit his readers have come to know and love, Dark weaves in current themes around the pandemic and vaccine responses, Black Lives Matter, the #MeToo and #ChurchToo movements, Critical Race Theory, and more. By looking intentionally at our weird religious background (we all have one), he helps us acknowledge the content of our everyday existence--the good, the bad, and the glaringly inconsistent. When we make peace with the idea of being religious, we can more practically envision an undivided life.
