Every Second Counts written by Donald McRae and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-21 with History categories.

The dramatic race to transplant the first human heart spanned two years, three continents and five cities against a backdrop of searing tension, scientific brilliance, ethical controversy, racial strife and emotional turmoil. It culminated in a terrifying moment in the early hours of 3 December 1967 when, in a cramped operating theatre in a Cape Town hospital, Professor Chris Barnard stared into an empty cavity from which he had just removed a heart. He knew that he had only minutes left to make history and save the life of a 55-year-old man by filling the gaping hole in his chest with a heart which had just been beating inside a 25-year-old woman. Every Second Countsis the story of this gripping race to conquer the greatest of medical challenges. It also reveals the truth about the man at the centre of it all, whose turbulent life story was just as gripping. The kind of true story that would be dismissed as far-fetched if presented as fiction, it combines an utterly compelling portrait of cutting-edge science with raw human drama, and shows how the course of medicine itself was changed for ever.

As the tension escalates in Trigger Protocol and Thirty Floors to Midnight, Mara must decode a puzzle that was built to collapse in real time. When the clock pauses in The Four-Minute Silence, she discovers that stopping time is not the same as defeating it. In 1999, Lance Armstrong made world headlines with the most stunning comeback in the history of sport after battling against life-threatening testicular cancer just eighteen months before returning to professional cycling. His first book, It's Not About the Bike, charted his journey back to life and went on to become an international bestseller. Now, in his much-anticipated follow-up, Armstrong shares more details of his extraordinary life story, including the births of his twin daughters Grace and Isabel. Never shy of controversy, Armstrong offers, with typical frankness, his thoughts on training, competing, winning and failure. He also tells of the work he did for the foundation he created following his dramatic recovery, addresses the daunting challenge of living in the aftermath of cancer and treatment, and shares further inspirational tales of survival. A fresh outlook on the spirit of survivors everywhere, Every Second Counts is an account of a man who strives every day to meet life's challenges - whether on his bike or off. Every Second Counts was first published in October 2003. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in January 2013, Lance Armstrong admitted to having taken performance enhancing drugs in all seven of the Tours de France in which he competed between 1999 and 2005. He was officially stripped of these wins by the UCI, the world governing body for cycling, in 2012.

Optimizing The Duration Of Point Counts For Monitoring Trends In Bird Populations written by Jared Verner and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988 with Bird populations categories.

Minute-by-minute analysis of point counts of birds in mixed-conifer forests in the Sierra National Forest, central California, showed that cumulative counts of species and individuals increased in a curvilinear fashion but did not reach asymptotes after 10 minutes of counting. Comparison of the expected number of individuals counted per hour with various combinations of counting time and noncounting times for record keeping and travel between counting stations showed that 10-minute counts were most efficient in most cases. Counting longer than 10 minutes is not recommended, because other increased risk of double counting some individuals.

100 Minutes written by Lisa Donohue and has been published by Pembroke Publishers Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Education categories.

100 Minutes is a comprehensive look at literacy and learning that includes reading, writing, oral communication, and digital literacy. It shows teachers how to fit balanced literacy into a 100-minute literacy block using a framework of whole-class and guided small group instruction, writing sessions, and independent work. By chunking a literacy block into three distinct sections, this practical resource argues that it is possible to provide opportunities for students to engage in all aspects of literacy, have voice and choice in their learning, capitalize on their strengths, identify areas for growth, and set personal learning goals.
