Sigrud je Harkvaldsson is back, and this time he's out for vengeance. The awesome climax to the fantasy thrillers City of Stairs and City of Blades: perfect for fans of Neil Gaiman, Brent Weeks and China Miéville. Shara Komayd, once Prime Minister of Saypur, has been assassinated. News travels fast and far, even to a remote logging town somewhere northwest of Bulikov, where the silent, shaven-headed Dreyling worker 'Bjorn' picks up the newspaper and walks out. He is shocked and grieved and furious; he's been waiting thirteen years for Shara, his closest friend, to reach out to him - to tell him to come home. He's always believed she was running a long operation, that there would be a role for him at the right time. Now he has no one else in his life, and nothing to live for - except to find the people who did this. Sigrud wasn't there for the death of his daughter Signe, and he wasn't there when Shara was murdered. Now Bjorn is dead and Sigrud is back. And he will find answers, for Shara, and for himself. He's made a promise . . .

Korea, one of the original 'Tiger Economies', experiences a traumatic and largely unanticipated economic crisis in 1997-98 from which the country is still recovering. Despite having achieved spectacular economic advances from the early 1960s, the crisis laid bare numerous structural, economic and policy weaknesses. Charles Harvie and Hyun-Hoon Lee chronicle and analyze the key factors behind Korea's economic miracle from 1962-1989 and the causes that contributed to the economic downturn and ensuing crisis of 1997-98. Is the Korean economy still fading or is its revival underway? As the country undertakes a series of recovery measures, the authors consider the importance of the ongoing restructuring efforts in the corporate and banking sectors, the development of the 'new economy; and the potential economic advantages to be derived from reunification with the North.

Parents are disheartened when their children fall away from religious practice. Pastoral workers wonder how they can get people to take religion seriously. Something is at work that is puzzling; but we can learn something useful about it. A crucial factor is the role of culture. To have faith is an act of individual responsibility, but it can also be influenced by life around us. For example, popular opinion or concentration on making a fortune can make us deaf to any message about what lies beyond our immediate concerns. This book is the fruit of the author’s extensive study of how cultural forces influence attitudes. Calling on long experience lecturing and in pastoral ministry, he shows how cultural factors influence religious belief in our times and how ordinary believers can be active participants in creating a culture that opens us to God’s word.

For through Him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through Him and for Him. Colossians 1:16 The Mighty Hand of God With one divine decision, history began. Existence became measurable. Because God spoke out, out of nothing came light. Out of this light came day. Then, in obedience to His command came the sky and earth. And on this earth we call home, His mighty hand went to work. Canyons were carved deep into the face of the earth, oceans were dug, mountains erupted out of flat land, stars were flung into the heavens, and a new universe sparkled simply because Almighty God spoke and willed it so! All we must do is look at the Grand Canyons splendor and touch the gentle fragrant petals of a flower and we see His loving delicate work. We but have to listen to thunder and see the storm to stand in awe of His mighty power. As you travel through each day, you will encounter Gods creation. As you see the beauty around you, allow each detail to remind you to bow down before Him and lift up your hands in praise. We should daily express our appreciation for Gods creations around us. As parents, we must encourage our children to see the beauty of His love. Anonymous

In this modern age the regional and national boundaries which define Scotland seem fixed and permanent. But of course this has not always been so. In this book Alistair Moffat looks at the shifting political shape of the land long before its modern borders were created. In doing so he brings to vivid life the half-forgotten kingdoms that came and went during Roman times, the Dark Ages and the early medieval period. This is a fascinating journey into a tantalisingly little-known period of our history, yet one which is crucial to our understanding of who we are and where we came from. A special omnibus edition, collecting all three books of Robert Jackson Bennett’s acclaimed Divine Cities trilogy in a single volume. In a world where terrifying, capricious gods once walked the earth, enslaving and brutalizing millions, three unforgettable protagonists struggle to come to terms with the mysteries these divinities left behind— and to make sure these cruel masters do not rise again. In City of Stairs, an unassuming young woman named Shara Thivani arrives in Bulikov, the city that once wielded the powers of the gods to conquer the world. Officially, she is just another junior diplomat, dispatched by the city’s new colonial masters; unofficially, she is one of her country’s most accomplished spies, on a mission to solve a murder. As she pursues the killer, she begins to suspect that the gods who once guarded Bulikov are not as dead as they seem, and that the city’s cruel reign may begin anew. In City of Blades, General Turin Mulaghesh—foul-mouthed hero of the battle of Bulikov, rumored war criminal, ally of an embattled prime minister—is pressed into service one last time, investigating a terrifying discovery in the city of Voortyashtan, once the stronghold of the god of war and death. Voortyashtan’s god is most certainly dead, but something is awakening in the city. And someone is determined to make the world tremble at the city’s awful power once again. In City of Miracles, the formidable, seemingly unkillable Sigrud je Harkvaldsson returns from self-imposed exile on a mission of revenge, only to find himself embroiled in a battle that may be beyond even his abilities to win—a secret, decades-long war that will force him to confront the last mysteries of Bulikov, the city of miracles itself.
