Sir Sze-yuen Chung is not only a veteran politician in Hong Kong, but an important figure in the development of Hong Kong in the past four decades. During that long period, he has played a significant role in Hong Kong's political, economic, educational, and social development, first when it was a British colony and then a Special Administrative Region of China. Indeed he is probably the only native son of Hong Kong who was closely and actively involved in the entire process of transferring Hong Kong's sovereignty back to China. His memoirs record his personal experiences in Hong Kong's political scene in the two decades between 1979 and 1999 and his role in the Sino-British negotiations and the subsequent twelve and a half years of transition from British colonial rule to the first Chinese Special Administrative Region having a high-degree of autonomy and practicing "One Country Two Systems." Under his outstanding leadership, he helped to bring the Sino-British negotiation on Hong Kong's political future to a successful conclusion. Then with his assistance and advice, Hong Kong was able to achieve a smooth and peaceful transition on 1 July 1997. This book is a valuable source of information on this important period in the history of Hong Kong. Some of the information has not been published before. It will be of interest to all those who wish to know more on what had happened during these pivotal years, which have determined the future course of Hong Kong.

The Constitutional System Of The Hong Kong Sar written by Albert H Y Chen and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-17 with Law categories.

This book provides an account of the evolving constitutional arrangement known as “One Country, Two Systems”, as practised in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The British colony of Hong Kong, one of the “Four Little Dragons” of East Asia, reverted to Chinese rule in 1997. Since then, Hong Kong has continued to be an international financial centre, a free market, and a cosmopolitan city. At the same time, the tensions and contradictions inherent in “One Country, Two Systems” have given rise to constitutional controversies and social movements, culminating in the Umbrella movement of 2014, the anti-extradition law movement of 2019, the enactment of a National Security Law in 2020, and the electoral overhaul of 2021. This book discusses the structure and operations of Hong Kong's legal, judicial and political systems and their interactions with the national authorities of the PRC. The book provides a useful case study in comparative constitutional law, especially on autonomy and devolution issues within sovereign States. This comparative study is particularly interesting because Hong Kong is a common law jurisdiction within the PRC's socialist legal system. It will therefore be of interest to students and scholars of Chinese law, Hong Kong law and comparative politics, as well as lawyers whose practice involves Hong Kong.

This atlas is aimed at collecting, compiling and desseminating information on mental health resources in the world. It presents updated and expanded information from 192 countries with analyses of global and regional trends as well as individual country profiles. Newly included in this volume is a section on epidemiology within the profiles of all low and middle income countries. It shows that mental health resources within most countries remain inadequate despite modest improvments since 2001. Availability of mental health resources across countries and between regions remains substantially uneven, with many countries having few resources. There are already many books on the challenges facing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), but this volume has a distinct contribution to make by offering an analysis of the evolving political order in Hong Kong and its international role. The team of authors comes from tertiary institutions within and outside Hong Kong, and they all have been studying the territory for many years. The authors focus on the plans of the Chinese authorities and the expectations of Hong Kong people. The gap between the two and the associated difficulties are then analysed. The authors also examine the possibilities of crises emerging, as well as the contingency plans formulated to deal with them.

Identity In Community written by Paul Kwong and has been published by LIT Verlag Münster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Religion categories.

The term ContactZone was coined in postcolonial discourse to signify the place where cultures and religions meet. It implies that first contact, cultural-religious exchange and conflict have always been determined by power-relations. Through making use of communication theories, hermeneutics and aesthetics intercultural theology generates new terminologies and theoretical tools to explore these interactions. Its scope ranges from issues such as dialogue and syncretism to fundamentalism and ethnicity. Perspectives of culture, religion, race, class and gender alike are involved in the necessary multi-axial approach. ContactZone is going to create a space where a choir of multiple voices is responding to the challenges of the cultural religious pluralism of the 21st century. Archbishop Paul Kwong (* 1950) develops the idea of "identity in community" as central to the mission and theological agenda of Christians in Hong Kong. In a wide-ranging multidisciplinary study, he analyzes diverse perspectives on the territory's recent history and compares the methodological approaches of local theologians with contextual theologies from other parts of the world. He argues that the overlapping cultural and religious identities of Christians in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China can empower Hong Kong people to embrace rather than to exclude differences and otherness, so that they can accept and live out our their identities in community without having to make a choice for one among the many.
