Wholly Tales: Butterfly & Grasshopper and Red Rose & Calla Lily are the first in the Wholly Tales series. Butterfly & Grasshopper are two friends who fly out to the field of green grass on a sunny day to admire the color and beauty of spring season. They only learn that they were part of the beauty of this field. It is inspired by Psalm 139:14, "All creatures of God, unique in their individual nature yet are wonderfully made." This story teaches kids that they are beautiful no matter how they look, with each kid wonderfully made by the loving God. Red Rose & Calla Lily is a story inspired by Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction." It is the story of two friends who had a disagreement because Red Rose got up one day with pride in her heart. She decided she wants to leave the garden full of other flowers and go up to a mountain where she can stand out by herself, being the preferred flower for many festive occasions. Despite every effort to persuade her by the much meeker friend Calla Lily, she insisted. What happened next is a lesson to teach kids of the imminent dangers of pride.

Donkeys and dogs, foxes and lions, cats, crocodiles, cows and cranes, hares and horse, fleas and flies -- all make their appearance in these delightful, and often edifying, tales from the medieval religious literature of three traditions : Christian, Jewish, and Islamic. Most of the human beings who make their appearance in these tales represent the best of their kind, and Professor Bell warns that no animal who reads this book should unwarily assume that the majority of humankind resembles them.

The Cap written by Joshua Mendelsohn and has been published by University of Nebraska Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Today the salary cap is an NBA institution, something fans take for granted as part of the fabric of the league or an obstacle to their favorite team’s chances to win a championship. In the early 1980s, however, a salary cap was not only novel but nonexistent. The Cap tells the fascinating, behind-the-scenes story of the deal between the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association that created the salary cap in 1983, the first in all of sports, against the backdrop of a looming players’ strike on one side and threatened economic collapse on the other. Joshua Mendelsohn illustrates how the salary cap was more than just professional basketball’s economic foundation—it was a grand bargain, a compromise meant to end the chaos that had gripped the sport since the early 1960s. The NBA had spent decades in a vulnerable position financially and legally, unique in professional sports. It entered the 1980s badly battered, something no one knew better than a few legendary NBA figures: Larry Fleisher, general counsel and negotiator for the National Basketball Players Association; Larry O’Brien, the commissioner; and David Stern, who led negotiations for the NBA and would be named the commissioner a few months after the salary cap deal was reached. As a result, in 1983 the NBA and its players made a novel settlement. The players gave up infinite pay increases, but they gained a guaranteed piece of the league’s revenue and free agency to play where they wished—a combination that did not exist before in professional sports but as a result became standard for the NBA, NFL, and NHL as well. The Cap explores in detail not only the high-stakes negotiations in the early 1980s but all the twists and turns through the decades that led the parties to reach a salary cap compromise. It is a compelling story that involves notable players, colorful owners, visionary league and union officials, and a sport trying to solidify a bright future despite a turbulent past and present. This is a story missing from the landscape of basketball history.

Disbelief written by Will M. Gervais and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-30 with Psychology categories.

Does God exist? This straightforward question has spawned endless debate, ranging from apologists’ supposed proofs of God’s existence to New Atheist manifestos declaring belief in God a harmful delusion. In Disbelief, Will M. Gervais, Phd., a global leader in the psychological study of atheism, shows that the ubiquity of religious belief and the peculiarities of atheism are connected pieces in the puzzle of human nature. It’s undeniable that religion is a core tenet of human nature. It is also true that our overwhelmingly religious species is also as atheistic as it’s ever been. Yet, no scientific understanding of religion is complete without accounting for those who actively do not believe. In this refreshing and revelatory book, Gervais argues that religion is not an evolutionary puzzle so much as two evolutionary puzzles that can only be solved together. First is the Puzzle of Faith: the puzzle of how Homo sapiens – and Homo sapiens alone – came to be a religious species. Second is the Puzzle of Atheism: how disbelief in gods can exist within our uniquely religious species. The result is a radically cohesive theory of both faith and atheism, showing how we became a uniquely religious species, and why many are now abandoning their belief. Through a firsthand account of breakthroughs in the scientific study of atheism, including key findings from cognitive science, cultural evolution, and evolutionary psychology, Disbelief forces a rethinking of the prevailing theories of religion and reminds both believers and atheists of the shared psychologies that set them on their distinct religious trajectories. In casual prose and with compelling examples, Gervais explains how we became religious, why we’re leaving faith behind, and how we can get along with others across the religious divides we’ve culturally evolved.
