Excerpt from Why I Believe the Book of Mormon to Be the Word of God If Joseph Smith's testimony concerning the Book of Mormon be false, then his testimony concerning all these other things may be equally false; and if so, tens of thousands of people have been grossly deceived. But if Joseph Smith's testimony in relation to the Book of Mormon be true, then we may reasonably believe that he spoke the truth when he declared that he, had seen the Father and the Son, and also the angelic beings to whom I have referred. What will the Book of Mormon do for us? It will help us solve any theological problem that may be presented to us. By way of illustration: When I was a youth, serving an apprenticeship to the printing trade, one of the printers took delight in propounding riddles and problems to his fellow-workmen. One day he said to the other compositors: "I have a new problem for you: A blacksmith had an anvil, composed of four pieces, with which he could weigh from one pound up to forty pounds. Find the weight of each piece." The printers put their heads together and in a short time the problem was solved. One piece of the anvil weighed one pound, another piece weighed three pounds, another, nine pounds, and the fourth piece, twenty-seven pounds. With these weights a person can weigh from one pound up to forty pounds. Now, once we become thoroughly convinced that the Book of Mormon is true, it will, as I have said, solve any theological problem that may confront us. Do we want knowledge concerning God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost? We can get it in the Book of Mormon. Would we know concerning the pre-existence of spirits? Such knowledge may be obtained from the Book of Mormon. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 83: September 8, 1921 The other theory - the one advocated by the Mormon Church is that a heavenly messenger appeared to Joseph Smith and told the youth about a set of gold plates that were hid in a hill a short distance from his home, on which was engraved a history of the ancient inhabitants of America; that four years later Joseph Smith was permitted to take the plates from their hiding place; that through the gift and power of God he tran slated them into English and presented to the world the Book of Mormon. Now, in order that the world might have this new witness for God and His Christ, the Church has spent tens of thousands of dollars in printing and distributing the Book of Mormon, and thousands of missionaries have carried it to many of the nations. I have read Joseph Smith's account of the origin of the Book of Mormon many times, and I am thoroughly con vinced that it is true. It is much easier for me to believe Joseph Smith's story than to believe the Spaulding theory. One of the strong reasons I have for believing the Book of Mormon to be the word of God is because I believe the Prophets, Christ and the Apostles. There are in the Bible numerous prophecies relating to the Book of Mormon. I will refer to a few of them; A short time before his death the Patriarch Jacob, in blessing his son Joseph, said. Mormons say they are Christians but are they? Do they believe in the same Bible the same God and the same Jesus that Christians follow? This book answers these questions and more: Was God ever a man? Were Jesus and Lucifer brothers? Is Scripture still being written? Are we saved by what we do? Did Joseph Smith ever give false prophecies? The meaning of terms Mormons use as well as their views on the Bible reveal the huge chasm between what Mormons and Christians believe. This book will help you share the truth with Mormons that come to your door.

"We...believe...the Book of Mormon to be the word of God." With this declaration in the Eighth Article of Faith, Joseph Smith brought together 2 of the cornerstones of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: the Book of Mormon and the Articles of Faith. This book serves as a study guide, one way of reading the Book of Mormon and the development of themes through 13 distinct sections, which correspond to each of the thirteen Articles of Faith--in order. For example, First Nephi helps us to understand and develop faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, whereas Second Nephi 1-11 teaches, or reinforces, the second Article of Faith, and so forth. A sample of section development is as follows: 1st Article of Faith/1 Nephi 2nd Article of Faith/2 Nephi 1-11 3rd Article of Faith/2 Nephi 12 - Mosiah 5 4th Article of Faith/Mosiah 6 - 27 5th Article of Faith/Mosiah 28 - Alma 27 6th Article of Faith/Alma 27 - Helaman 4 Latter-day Saints have long been encouraged to read the Book of Mormon with a purpose or theme. Parallels provides an opportunity to do this, and shed light on how to read with a purpose. Often, we read with a singular theme: faith, Christ, baptism, and so forth. Now, a larger picture of thematic reading comes to light. A theme can be more than one single idea. Our understanding of the breadth and depth of the mind of God expands when we expand our studying!

Excerpt from The Book of Mormon: An Essay on Its Claims and Prophecies Now t are are only eight writers of what is now called the New Testament; Math Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, James, and Jude. Luke is placed third in the order of these writers; yet for all we know, he might have been the first of the eight, yet he says that many had written an account of the works and claims of Jesus Christ before be commenced. But if his place among the eight is right, surely two are not many. These things all taken together show a loss of sacred writings that is at once apparent and alarming, and forces the conclusion that if the Book of Mormon, and the Book of Doctrine and Coven ants among the Latter Day Saints, are not revelations from God, most certainly they ought to be! As the Book of Mormon says, it is no great wonder, that an exceeding great many do stumble, because of the many plain and precious parts taken away from the book of the lamb of God. Every reflect ing man knows that infidelity in these days has taken very lengthy and rapid strides. We cannot but think that if they had had the many plain and precious things above referred to, and plainly shown to have been robbed from the scriptures that infidelity could not have taken the gigantic strides that it has. Excerpt from The Book of Mormon Examined: And Its Claims to Be a Revelation From God, Proved to Be False The Whole mystery as to the origin of Mormonism, and the origin of the Book which they profess to follow, is cleared up by the foregoing letter and extract, which, I hope, the reader will notice particularly. It was Sidney Rigdon that dictated to Smith the subject matter of that Book and as soon as the manuscript was complete, withdrew from the scene of action, and joined Camp bell and others, in preaching baptism for the remission of sins in the literal sense. He left in order to return, 'when a more favorable opportunity occurred, and then returned as a stranger to Smith, expressing his affected surprise at the Book of Mormon, and professing not to receive it without much argu ment and persuasion. But, Where is he now? If_ the Book 18 deserving of credit, how is it that, of all the eleven Witnesses, with Sidney Rigdon also, not one is now a Latter Day Saint? Why have they left the system, if it was built upon truth? I leave it for the Mormons to reply. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
