A fondamento dello studio che viene presentato sta l'ipotesi che, nell'attuale momento dello sviluppo economico e culturale dei paesi industrializzati, le metamorfosi sociali in atto, la diffusione della tecnologia dell'abitazione e dell'informatica personale, il raggiunto equilibrio tra popolazione e abitazioni, la diffusione del benessere, tutto ciò abbia già determinato il tramonto dell'approccio tipologico al progetto dell'abitazione. In altre parole, ci si muove dalla convinzione che la Tipologia residenziale "classica", che fu strumento essenziale per ottimizzare, in un secolo di penuria economica, le scarse risorse per garantire dignità abitativa ai ceti che emergevano con fatica individuale e grande tumulto collettivo, abbia esaurito il suo compito e che oggi sia possibile e necessario trarre - dai sintomi leggibili nei comportamenti culturali di larghe fasce della popolazione, nei comportamenti dell'industria dei beni durevoli, nei risultati parziali delle sperimentazioni riguardanti tali beni, nei progetti utopici, nei modelli abitativi estremi (stazioni spaziali, basi polari ecc.), nella letteratura di fantasia e nelle profezie dei maestri dell'architettura e del design del novecento - i principi che stabiliscano in nuovi termini il problema progettuale dell'abitazione. Sveva Barbera è architetto, laureata presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Roma "La Sapienza". Dal 1997, svolge attività di ricerca nell'ambito del Design, partecipando a numerosi progetti nazionali e internazionali su tematiche riguardanti Design, Innovazione e Ambiente. Nel suo percorso di ricerca si è dedicata in particolare all'approfondimento delle tematiche ambientali e tecnologiche relative alla progettazione e all'innovazione dei prodotti industriali, dei sistemi di prodotto e dei servizi.
