Empirische Methoden in der Medienwirkungsforschung (+Umsetzung). Medienanalyse mit Hilfe der Framing-Theorie. Fernsehformate (allg. Definitionen, Talk-Show und Interview). Kategorien der Politikerwahrnehmung. Politik und Medien ( Personalisierung , Inszenierung von Politik im Fernsehen). Im Wahlkampf wollen sich die Politiker bestmöglich präsentieren. Durch die Medien erreichen sie mit einem Auftritt mehr Wähler als durch persönliche Wahlkampftouren, und das Fernsehen gilt aufgrund der suggestiven Kraft der Bilder als besonders einflussreiches Medium. Wie die Persönlichkeit eines Politikers wahrgenommen wird, hängt nicht nur von seinen rhetorischen Fähigkeiten ab, sondern auch davon, welche Seiten an sich er/sie unter gegebenen Voraussetzungen herausstreichen kann. Das können je nach Fernsehformat ganz unterschiedliche Persönlichkeitsmerkmale sein, z.B. eher der Charakter oder eher die Sachkompetenz. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, vor dem Hintergrund aktueller Theorien der Medienanalyse (Framing-Theorie) und der Medienwirkung (Schema-Theorie) Kausalzusammenhänge zwischen den Bedingungen unterschiedlicher Fernsehformate und der daraus resultierenden Wahrnehmung eines darin auftretenden Politikers aufzudecken. Dies soll in Bezug auf die Darstellung des Kanzlerkandidaten Gerhard Schröder im Bundestagswahlkampf 2002 überprüft werden in welcher Weise bewirken einzelne Fernsehformate eine Einstellungsänderung beim Rezipienten und wie stark sind diese Änderungen bei einem Vergleich der Formate? Die Forschungsfrage lautet demnach: Wie wirken sich unterschiedliche Fernsehformate auf die Bewertungen des Kanzlerkandidaten Gerhard Schröder im Bundestagswahlkampf 2002 durch den Rezipienten aus? Public opinion is one of the most elusive and complex concepts in democratic theory, and we do not fully understand its role in the political process. Reading Public Opinion offers one provocative approach for understanding how public opinion fits into the empirical world of politics. In fact, Susan Herbst finds that public opinion, surprisingly, has little to do with the mass public in many instances. Herbst draws on ideas from political science, sociology, and psychology to explore how three sets of political participants—legislative staffers, political activists, and journalists—actually evaluate and assess public opinion. She concludes that many political actors reject "the voice of the people" as uninformed and nebulous, relying instead on interest groups and the media for representations of public opinion.
