Die vorliegende Studie stellt ein Gesellschaftsmodell vor, das sich als Umsetzung und Anwendung einer der wichtigsten Sozialenzykliken der katholischen Kirche versteht, der Enzyklika Quadragesimo anno von Papst Pius XI. aus dem Jahre 1932. In der Enzyklika wird diese Ordnung als berufsständische Ordnung bezeichnet. Während bereits vor der Niederschrift dieser Enzyklika und ganz besonders in ihrem Anschluss zahlreiche Philosophen, Sozialwissenschaftler, Sozialethiker und Theologen intensiv mit einer Ausarbeitung der berufsständischen Ordnung beschäftigt waren und dieses Modell noch bis zum Ende der fünfziger Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts in der Sozialphilosophie, besonders natürlich der katholischen Kirche, und in vielen Reden und Erklärungen Papst Pius XII. eine wichtige Rolle spielte, verschwand anschließend dieses Modell fast vollständig aus der Öffentlichkeit. An dessen Stelle trat die sogenannte soziale Marktwirtschaft oder der Fürsorgestaat, wie er inzwischen in vielen Staaten Europas entstanden war. Doch die soziale Marktwirtschaft ist keineswegs etwas ähnliches oder auch nur analoges zur berufsständischen Ordnung. Ganz im Gegenteil verstößt der Sozialstaat, so der Autor, sogar gegen die Grundlagen der Sozialenzyklika, nämlich dem obersten Prinzip der Sozialphilosophie (Pius XI., QA), der Subsidiarität.
