Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Wissen und Information, Note: 1,7, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Zuge der reflexiven Modernisierung werden klassische Institutionen und grundlegende Unterscheidungen zunehmend begründungsbedürftig und verlangen nach Neuformierungen. Die durch technische Innovationen einhergegangenen ungeahnten Risiken und Folgen lassen Zweifel an der Exklusivität der Wissenschaft aufkommen. Gerade Konflikte im Umwelt- und Gesundheitswesen haben hier ihre Wirkung entfaltet und führen die wachsende Bedeutung von Nichtwissen vor Augen. Unsicherheiten werden vermehrt zum Thema des öffentlichen Diskurses. Der Fortschritt der Wissenschaft trägt also nicht zwingend zu einer Abnahme von Risiken bei, sondern kann Nichtwissen eher noch begünstigen. Risikobeobachtung kann allerdings nicht weiterhin allein unter Betrachtung eines explizit wissenschaftlich begründeten Ordnungssystems erfolgen, sondern bedarf ganz wesentlich auch gesellschaftlich etablierter Erwartungshorizonte, bedarf der Politik und Ökonomie. Wissen wird vermehrt an unterschiedlichen Orten produziert, womit auch unterschiedliche Wissensformen in die Wissenschaft selbst eingehen und sich zunehmend Abgrenzungsprobleme zwischen Wissen und Nichtwissen, Experten und Laien, Fakten und Werten auftun. Nichtwissen ist in sich selbst nicht einheitlich und weist weitere Dimensionen auf. Der unterschiedliche Umgang mit der Problematik im Allgemeinen verdeutlicht die Vielschichtigkeit von Nichtwissen, das im Vorliegenden anhand ausgewählter Fallbeispiele exemplifiziert werden soll. Es gilt dabei, die unterschiedlichen Entstehungsumstände der Fälle, das Erkennen und Reagieren auf jeweilige Unsicherheiten und die Auswirkungen auf die Öffentlichkeit herauszuarbeiten.
