Traditional organizational boundaries limit our ability to deliver results. The Connected Leader argues that many of the old leadership recipes are outdated and don't take into account changes in the work environment and informal social networks within the organization. Taking a new approach to leadership theory, the author argues that modern leaders engage with employees and improve performance by building on trust, giving meaning to workplace relationships and by creating dialogue within the organization. The Connected Leader provides diagnostic tools for readers to evaluate their own skills and directly relate the insights from the book to their own situation. International case studies provide clear examples of connected leadership.

Clich And Organization written by Luc Peters and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-29 with Philosophy categories.

Organizations are caught in clichés. This means that they do not think for themselves anymore, but rather simply copy pre-existing ideas. This is giving rise to a world which pretends to be knowable, predictable and mouldable, one in which clichés like efficiency, transparency, means-ends rationality, and the strong leader are used without further thought or critique. This is the reason why organizations come into conflict with themselves, and which causes a seemingly unresolvable crisis. Film, however, can show us a totally different world. It has a subversive potency that can wake up the viewer, making them think again, allowing them to see a world which cannot be perceived anymore. It can show the world as it really is again, and can enable us to break through clichés. This book adopts a unique viewpoint on organizations, through its use of film. With the help of philosophers like Deleuze, Heidegger and Sloterdijk, filmmakers like the Coen Brothers, Cronenberg, Antonioni and Tarkovsky and films like The Big Lebowski, eXistenZ, Stalker and Playtime, a world is revealed and explored. It shows the decisive role played by architecture, and why managers are manipulative and impotent at the same time.

This extraordinary true tale follows the disappearance of more than 20 million dollars worth of precious diamonds during World War II. In 1942, as the Japanese army advanced on Java, two wealthy businessmen entrusted a Russian aviator, Captain Ivan Smirnoff, with a small, mysteriously-unmarked package, to be delivered to a businessman in Sydney. The plane was attacked during a Japanese air raid and under heavy fire, but Smirnoff miraculously landed the badly damaged plane on an isolated beach on Java's far northwest coast. A few weeks later, Jack Palmer stumbled across the lost package—containing precious diamonds—among the plane's wreckage. Nicknamed "Diamond Jack," Palmer and two others were charged with theft of the diamonds. This true adventure follows the diamonds as they are lost, found, and lost again.

On 1 June 1943 Flight 777, a Douglas DC-3, en route from Lisbon to Britain, was shot down over the Bay of Biscay by German aircraft. Among the dead was the actor Leslie Howard, who had returned from Hollywood to England to help the British war effort. Also on board was Howards tax adviser, Alfred Chenhalls, who smoked cigars and looked remarkably like Winston Churchill. Did the Germans believe that Churchill was on board Flight 777? Other aircraft flying that route went unmolested by the Luftwaffe in spite of the German air presence over the Bay of Biscay. These flights were operated by Dutch crews flying aircraft of KLM, which were on charter to BOAC, and it was an experience Dutch crew that was lost that day. Ian Colvin carried out an exhaustive investigation into the incident, including interviewing former Luftwaffe personnel and this book, first published in 1957, is the result of his endeavors.

Caesarion written by Tommy Wieringa and has been published by Granta Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-02 with Fiction categories.

In the port of Alexandria, a very long time ago, Julius Caesar impregnated and then abandoned Cleopatra. The child of their union – groomed for greatness by his devoted mother but destined for tragedy – was called Caesarion. Little Caesar. History repeats itself, first as tragedy then as farce. In our time, another boy, Ludwig, is born in Alexandria and again the father flees the scene of the birth. The boy and his mother are soon obliged to move on. She, Marthe, is stormy, impetuous and vain. She will not rest until she finds their ideal home – which needs to be both dramatic and cheap. And so Ludwig and his mother end up on a clifftop in Suffolk in a house being eaten from the inside by woodworm and eroded from the outside by the waves attacking its foundations. In the hours mother and son spend together preening in front of the dressing-table mirror, a melodramatic intensity is born. But this stormy novel does not develop as you might then predict. Instead it opens out into a page-turning exploration of the power of the absent parent versus the power of the too-present parent. And it moves between Cartagena in the Caribbean and Viennese crypts, the rugby pitch and the chemotherapy ward, LA and London, the Mediterranean and the Pacific, as Ludwig’s gifts as a pianist open the world up. Caesarion is a novel that asks how anyone can ever know for sure how to be the right parent for their child, and how any child can know how to let themselves be parented. It is a beautiful, strong and brave novel. It confirms Tommy Wieringa as a storyteller of great range and real distinction.
