A dazzling feat of romantic fiction that blends rich historical detail with sumptuous romance to sweep us into glittering, intrigue-riddled Elizabethan England, from New York Times bestselling author Virginia Henley Young Bess Hardwick knew that the only way to escape a commoner's life was to serve in a noble family and marry well. So the headstrong beauty set out for London and the Tudor court, the arena for the richest, most ambitious men, none more powerful than the four men who would claim her. None more dangerous than Princess Elizabeth, who made Bess friend, confidante, then lady-in-waiting in her own glittering court... Dangerously seductive, William Cavendish, the king's dashing financial adviser, vowed to have Bess at any cost. Frail, adoring Robert Barlow offered a marriage she couldn't refuse. Newly crowned Queen Elizabeth bade her marry courtly Sir William St. Loe. But reckless passion drove Bess into the arms of George Talbot, the devastating Earl of Shrewsbury, whose wicked daring ignited in Bess the passion of a lifetime—even as it sparked the jealous interest of the most perilous ally of all: the Virgin Queen....

The women of Passion Week played an integral role in the final days of Jesus' life. They supported his ministry and courageously stayed at the cross. They lived out their beliefs by meeting his practical needs and by devoting their lives to his cause. Who were these brave, amazing women? Several are listed in scripture. Many are lauded historically as legends have grown through the years. But many of the women of Passion Week have been ignored, disappearing behind the cultural norms that sidelined them. We must bring them to the top of the list as important characters in the story. Step into the narratives of these women and imagine how they might have dealt with the death of their leader, then rejoiced as he returned to them - alive. Return to the events that led to the death of Jesus, but also heralded him as the risen King. Then underscore your own role during the Lenten season as a woman who worships the King of kings.

Think of Torch Songs and the Tango. Think of films such as Casablanca and The English Patient, of novels such as Wuthering Heights and Rebecca. Think of romantic, obsessive love, the hot bed of passion we fall into, the emotion we, mistakenly, think of as true love. This is the subject of Rosemary Sullivan's provocative and fascinating new book Labyrinth of Desire.

Women of the Passion offers readers a unique Lenten encounter. Women from Scripture who were transformed by their encounters with Jesus narrate the story of Christ's Passion through the traditional 14 Stations of the Cross. Readers will experience the Passion through the eyes of such women as the widow with the mite, the woman with the flow of blood, the bent-over woman, the woman taken in adultery, and, of course, Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Jesus. The book sets the stage with the anointing of Jesus by a woman, his denial by Peter as described by the High Priest's maid, and the dream of Pilate's wife. Then, Station by Station, readers accompany Jesus on his journey to the Cross. The book ends with Mary's wild grief over the loss of her son and the peace she finds as she places him in the tomb. Women of the Passion is perfect for Lenten retreats or as a Lenten program, especially during Holy Week. It is suitable for use by mixed groups of women and men, young and old.

The Politics Of Passion written by Gloria Wekker and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Education categories.

The Politics of Passion centers on an old institution among the Afro-Surinamese working class in which women have multiple sexual relationships with both men and women. These women reject marriage because of the bonds of dependency it fosters, preferring to create their own families of kin, lovers, and children. Gloria Wekker analyzes this phenomenon, known as mati work, as she vividly describes the lives of Afro-Surinamese women. She gives an account of women's sexuality that is not limited to either heterosexuality or same-sex sexuality. Her work offers new perspectives on black women's sexuality, the lives of Caribbean women, transnational gay and lesbian movements, and an Afro-Surinamese tradition that challenges conventional Western notions of marriage, gender, and sexuality. By foregrounding the voices of Afro-Surinamese women, Wekker illuminates these women's daily lives in light of the changes occurring in Surinamese society. She also considers the historical, religious, psychological, economic, linguistic, cultural, and political elements that have shaped their lives. The book concludes with stories of women who have migrated to the Netherlands, where they have created new, vibrant mati communities.
