Twenty-nine collected essays represent a critical history of Shakespeare's play as text and as theater, beginning with Samuel Johnson in 1765, and ending with a review of the Royal Shakespeare Company production in 1991. The criticism centers on three aspects of the play: the love/friendship debate.

The brilliant second novel from the acclaimed author of In Every Mirror She's Black follows three women as they try to navigate life, love, prejudice and privilege in Stockholm. Yasmiin cannot comprehend what the policeman is saying to her. Her friend in a coma? Attempted suicide? Discovering she's listed as next of kin, Yasmiin looks to her friend's past to try and understand her actions, uncovering fresh mysteries at every turn. All the while, her own life seems to be running off course... Kemi seems to have it all: a high-powered job, a beautiful flat, a loving boyfriend. So why doesn't she feel more settled? Unsure whether its homesickness, heartsickness or sick-and-tired-of-the-same-old-sickness, she embarks on a destructive path to try and change things up... Brittany-Rae doesn't remember the woman she was before she met her husband Jonny. She knows she was an ambitious, confident go-getter, but now she's faded into Jonny's domineering shadow. And as she unearths disturbing secrets about her husband, she's focused on only one thing: her daughter, Maya, and ensuring she is as far away from Jonny as possible... The three women's lives begin to overlap in the most unexpected of circumstances. Is it possible that the answer to their problems – though it seems impossible – lie in one another's hands?

Engage, Empower, ...and Go Viral! Jesus told His followers that He would build His church, and then He told them to go and make disciples. It's that simple. We make disciples, and He builds the church. But today we often get this exactly backward. We work hard to build our churches with programs and promotions while continuing to neglect the essential practice of discipleship. And we wonder why we struggle. In WikiChurch, Steve Murrell shows you how anyone can make disciples through the simple process of... · Engaging culture and community · Establishing spiritual foundations · Equipping believers to minister · Empowering disciples to make disciples Imagine if every believer, not just leaders, was actively engaged in your ministry. That's the Book of Acts. That's a WikiChurch.

Stories, examples, parables, metaphors, and humor support the sixty-three reflections on biblical texts from the Revised Common Lectionary. The author uses a "theme approach," addressing issues and questions sometimes overlooked in preaching, balancing private, personal spirituality with the social and corporate. Open-minded and ecumenical in tone, ULU reflects the theology of one firmly planted in the Wesleyan tradition, where scripture, tradition, experience, and reason insist upon openness to the new things that God is doing, and where believers seek to work actively for the transformation of creation according to the values and the vision of the realm of God. Twenty original monochrome photos by the author are distributed between chapters.

This is a story based on real life experience. Two women of very different backgrounds finally meet through adoption. Isabel, married but infertile, adopts Francesca's baby, Laura. Her wish is to provide the child with a happy, loving home and future, and to be fulfilled in motherhood herself. As the years go by, life generally and the path of adoption are far from smooth. Isabel cannot comprehend her daughter's anger and 'distancing' before, during and well after adolescence. Something deep within Laura is disturbing her, and creating this hostility. Nancy Newton Verrier's research into 'the primal wound' and separation trauma sheds light on the reasons for these problems in adopted children, hitherto unexplained. And what of Francesca? This is a book with a mission, particularly for those considering adoption.

We often believe things about ourselves that do not line up with God's truth. We think our worth is based on performance or possessions, that we have to be perfect to be loved, or that we're too ordinary to be used by God. Deeper tears down these lies and teaches women to replace them with four truths from Psalm 139--God knows me, he protects me, he made me, he values me. Using compelling narrative and Scripture, Deeper helps women transform their lives by trusting in the reality of God's love. Instead of striving for perfection and worth, readers can rest in the truth that they are his.

Loopholes written by John Bruns and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Literary Criticism categories.

Much writing about comedy in the last twenty years has only trivialized comedy as cheap or as temporary distraction from things that "really matter." It has either presented exhaustive taxonomies of kinds of humor--like wit, puns, jokes, humor, satire, irony--or engaged in pointless political endgames, moral dialogues, or philosophical perceptions. Comedy is rarely presented as a mode of thought in its own right, as a way of understanding, not something to be understood. Bruns' guiding assumption is that comedy is not simply a literary or theatrical genre, to be diff erentiated from tragedy or from romance, but a certain way of disclosing, perhaps undoing, the way the world is organized. When we view the world in terms of what is incompatible, we are reading comically. In this sense, comedy exists outside the alternatives of tragic and comic. Loopholes argues that trivialization of comedy comes from fear that it will address our anxieties with honesty-- and it is this truth that scares us. John Bruns discusses comedy as a mode of thought with a cognitive function. It is a domain of human understanding, a domain far more troubling and accessible than we care to acknowledge. To "read comically" we must accept our fears. If we do so, we will realize what Bruns refers to as the most neglected premise of comedy, that the world itself is a loophole--both incomplete and limitless.
