The Internet In The Workplace written by Patricia Wallace and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-20 with Psychology categories.

The Internet, and all the netcentric innovations that emerge from it, have transformed the workplace and our working lives in a very short time. The net added a window to the world on worker's desks, and made 24 by 7 connectivity to the workplace a reality--blurring the line between work and time off. It triggered new styles of teamwork, new leadership challenges, new modes of communicating, new job roles and employer-employee relationships, and new, alarmingly effective tools for workplace surveillance. The capabilties offered by netcentric technologies might seem to eliminate completely the need for a physical workplace, but the workplace remains, partly because the virtual, and in fact, the physical appearance of a typical office looks about the same. Nevertheless, the psychological characteristics of the workplace have changed considerably. Workers, from the mail room clerk to the CEO, are learning new skills--to employ on the net's power but avoid the egregious blunders that the net so dramatically amplifies. In The Internet in the Workplace, Patricia Wallace demonstrates how netcentric technologies touch every kind of workplace, and explores the challenges and dilemmas they create. Patricia Wallace is Director, Information Technology and Distance Programs at the Center for Talented Youth, Johns Hopkins University. Wallace's background and career span the disciplines of information technology, psychology, education, and business. Her recent book, The Psychology of the Internet (Cambridge, 1999) has been translated into nine languages. Wallace's work has been featured often in the media, including MSNBC, CNN, ABC News, the BBC, NPR, USA Today, and the Washington Post.

Secrets & Big News is an engaging read about the subject of 'declaration' and 'disclosure' of disability in the workplace. Based on a two-year research project, the book details the reasons why people find it hard to share information and offers ideas for both employers and employees alike. 55 employers took part in the study and together they reached just over 2,500 of their employees who offered their views about what makes it hard to share personal information, as well as what makes it easier. The book is triggering a wave of new conversations between valuable employees and UK and global businesses. The book is not about medicine, politics or disability rights: it's about what it means to be human and how employers can retain their talented people through periods of ill health and disability. The text is full of practical hints and tips for HRM professionals, diversity and inclusion specialists and employee network leaders. The Advisory Board for the project included representatives from Lloyds Banking Group, Business Disability Forum, Business in the Community, BT, Shell, Metropolitan Police Service, Coca Cola, and the Civil Service Disability Network. Secrets & Big News outlines 15 'Big Ideas' for employers about how they can make it easier for their staff to share information about their disability and 15 'Big Ideas' to disabled people about how to be more disability confident themselves. The report builds on the government's recent Disability Confident campaign and engagement with employers across the UK.

Managing Employee Retention written by Jack J. Phillips and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-02-18 with Business & Economics categories.

During the past decade, employee turnover has become a very serious problem for organizations. Managing retention and keeping the turnover rate below target and industry norms is one of the most challenging issues facing business. All indications point toward the issue compounding in the future and, even as economic times change, turnover will continue to be an important issue for most job groups. Yet despite these facts employee turnover continues to be the most unappreciated and undervalued issue facing business leaders. There are a variety of reasons for this, for example, the true cost of employee turnover is often underestimated. The causes of turnover are not adequately identified, and solutions are often not matched with the causes, so they fail. Preventive measures are either not in place or do not target the issues properly, and therefore have little or no effect, and a method for measuring progress and identifying a monetary value (ROI) on retention does not exist in most organizations. 'Managing Employee Retention' is a practical guide for managers to retain their talented employees. It shows how to manage and monitor turnover and how to develop the ROI of keeping your talent using innovative retention programs. The book presents a logical process of managing retention, from identifying turnover costs and causes, designing solutions that match the causes of turnover, developing tools for tracking turnover and placing alerts when action is needed, and measuring the ROI of retention programs.

The Dark Side Of The Workplace written by Annette B. Roter and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-08 with Business & Economics categories.

The workplace can be a hotbed of difficulty and incivility—from rumors spread about an individual, to the agonies of stress, to physical attacks and even death. Evidence suggests that not only does incivility have significant implications for employees, organizations and society, it is also on the rise. In recent years we have experienced increased acts of incivility in the workplace, social media and government positions. There is a direct correlation between uncivil behavior and financial outcomes for organizations. It is estimated that stress related to uncivil actions in the workplace costs organizations approximately $300 billion annually. The cost of personal implications for employees is often too high to calculate as individuals experience loss of reputation and significant psychological and physical distress. With the increased use of social media, individuals are experiencing incivility that crosses the boundary between their personal and professional lives. This book delves into the darker side of the workplace, discussing bullying, toxic work environments, corporate psychopaths, the struggles of stress, and more. It combines recent research and case studies to provide an understanding of these behaviors, and offers practical solutions on how to cultivate a healthy working environment.
