Education And The Working Class written by Sigamoney Manicka Naicker and has been published by African Sun Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-12 with Education categories.

Why do so many working-class and vulnerable children struggle in the education system? Education and the Working Class argues that education remains centred on a middle-class narrative that ignores the lived realities of the poor and marginalised. We dissect how a lack of sociological perspective and commitment to social justice has perpetuated an inflexible system that is failing vulnerable communities. This book provides a cutting analysis of why interventions have failed to solve various issues and explores the limitations of special education and current inclusive policies. The bureaucracy itself is scrutinised, calling for reformed teams combining disciplinary knowledge and project management skills. Ultimately, a new social justice model is proposed for education planning. This would entail systemic changes like reworking the foundation phase around socio-emotional development, embracing contextual realities, and compensating for the lack of social/cultural capital. Featuring insights from theorists like Bernstein and Bourdieu, alongside the author’s own writings and speeches, the book initiates a vital debate. It envisions transforming education to empower rather than marginalise the working class through a transformative philosophy grounded in their unique needs and circumstances.

The goal of this book is to introduce readers to three powerful command line utilities that can be combined to create simple yet powerful shell scripts for performing a multitude of tasks. The code samples and scripts use the bash shell, and typically involve very small text files so that you can focus on understanding the features of grep, sed, and awk. In the simplest terms, grep (global regular expression print) will search input files in data for certain words or word patterns and print the lines that match it. sed is useful for changing or modifying data. Awk is a programming language also used for searching a data file for certain patterns, but can also perform certain tasks on the pattern matches it finds. Aimed at a reader relatively new to working in a bash environment, the book is comprehensive enough to be a good reference and teach a few new tricks to those who already have some experience with these command line utilities.

Despite the astonishing diversity of languages, cultures, philosophies, religions, economic systems and ways that social work is taught and practised in the region, social work in the Asia-Pacific is becoming more internationally cohesive. At the same time it maintains strong foundations in its local contexts. In an increasingly globalised world, international social work belongs in every 21st-century social work curriculum. While this book does not provide all the answers, it will help educators and practitioners ask better questions.

Higher Education And Working Class Academics written by Teresa Crew and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-09 with Education categories.

This book examines how a working-class habitus interacts with the elite culture of academia in higher education. Drawing on extensive qualitative data and informed by the work of Pierre Bourdieu, the author presents new ways of examining impostor syndrome, alienation and microaggressions: all common to the working-class experience of academia. The book demonstrates that the term ‘working-class academic’ is not homogenous, and instead illuminates the entanglements of class and academia. Through an examination of such intersections as ethnicity, gender, dis/ability, and place, the author demonstrates the complexity of class and academia in the UK and asks how we can move forward so working-class academics can support both each other and students from all backgrounds.

Education Work And Social Change In Britain S Former Coalfield Communities written by Robin Simmons and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-17 with Education categories.

This edited book presents a range of chapters written by new and established authors, drawing on a range of different perspectives and traditions to critically analyse education, work and social change in the former coalfields. Historically, coal was one of Britain’s major industries, employing over a million men at its peak. But mining was more than an occupation - it was a way of life for those living and working in coalfield communities. Work, leisure, family relations and other dimensions of social life were centred upon the coal industry and its related institutions such as trade unions, working-men’s clubs and welfare institutes. These communities have, however, undergone significant social and economic change over time, not least in terms of the pain and suffering associated with the Great Strike of 1984–85, the successive waves of pit closures which took place thereafter and the eventual demise of the coal industry. The book will be of interest to academics drawing on sociology, social policy, history, geography and other subject disciplines.
