At first glance, this handbook seems to look like just another self-help book for those seeking a way to deal with conflict such as a local bully who is tormenting them in school or at work; but as we all know looks can be deceiving! No doubt those needing a means to deal with such a bully will find help by learning and applying the basic peacemaking skills identified, described and illustrated in Part I; using the nine letters of WE DO PEACE as a reminder of each one. Even if this handbook ended at this point it would still have invaluably served those seeking help in handling conflict in their lives by providing them with an easy way to remember the nine basic peacemaking skills needed to resolve one-on-one disputes in a rational, non-violent way. The authors introduce us to WeDoPeace Communities, their transformative model comprised of two components for achieving a world without violence. The first component being WeDoPeace101, a school system-wide package of grade specific programs that teach and train all K-12 students the basic skills of peacemaking. The second component is a community-wide network of WeDoPeace Teams, comprised of qualified peacemakers available to assist residents whenever they need help in resolving conflicts arising in their homes. schools, neighborhoods and workplaces. Conflict is normal; Violence is not ! Conflict can be resolved without violence if we know how to do peace. "Achieving A World Without Violence: The WeDoPeace Handbook" is a personal self-help book of peacemaking skills for those wishing to be able to confront and resolve their own conflicts and have peace in their lives. It is based upon well proven and documented conflict resolution principles and programs. At the same time it presents readers with both a vision and a plan of action as to how they can scale up the use of these basic peacemaking skills in their own communities and in all societies; ultimately achieving a world without violence.

This small handbook addresses a very big problem - How to change a culture of violence to one of peace. It provides the reader with a step by step method for dealing with conflict we all confront in our day to day lives in our homes, at our jobs, in our schools and in our neighborhoods; provides a plan for volunteers to extend this method of doing peace across our communities and ultimately right across the globe to create a world without violence. Part I of this peace handbook, at first glance, seems to look like just another self-help book for those seeking a way to deal with confronting a conflict such as a local bully who is tormenting them in school or at work; but as we all know looks can be deceiving! No doubt those needing a means to confront such a bully will find help in doing so by learning and applying the nine basic peacemaking skills, identified, described and illustrated in Part I using the nine letters of WE DO PEACE as a reminder of each one. Even if this handbook ended at this point it would still have served those seeking help in handling conflict in their lives by providing them with an easy way to remember the basic peacemaking skills needed to resolve one-on-one disputes in a rational, non-violent way. These skills highlighted by authors Sharon Ernst & Walter Sylvester and effectively illustrated by Jean Roosenberg are not new in the field of conflict resolution. The Conflict Resolution Network based in Australia has been instrumental in developing, promoting and implementing them on that continent over the decades; and has been effective in spreading them globally through adherents who have adapted and used them to deal with all kinds of conflict in all manner of situations and venues. Part II does indeed separate this handbook from most other self-help books in that it extends the scope of self-help to others by introducing us to the concept of WeDoPeace Communities. The authors show us how we can transform our village, town or city into a WeDoPeace Community by the taking of two steps: First, by having our school systems adopt WeDoPeace101: a Pre K-12 package of proven educational and training programs from around the world to teach and train all of us in the use of the basic peacemaking skills of negotiation, mediation and peace circles. Second, by creating a community-wide network of WeDoPeace Teams: Teams of qualified peacemakers who have been trained to help local residents in need of assistance in resolving the conflict in their lives. Many of these adult peace team members will be those who learned their peacemaking skills while students in their school system's WeDoPeace101 program. Part III is a call to action by the authors urging their readers to volunteer and join a movement to make every village, town and city across the globe into a WeDoPeace Community by persuading their local school boards and elected leaders to adopt WeDoPeace101 and to create WeDoPeace Teams. The authors contend that If everyone could be taught and trained in using the basic peacemaking skills from the time they were toddlers the result would be that within just a few generations a culture of peace would replace the current culture of violence that now envelops our world. The logic is compelling, but most would argue that it is too simplistic and not realistic. Yet the authors show you not only where the programs that constitute WeDoPeace101 already exist, but also where they have successfully taught and trained tens of thousands in the skills of peacemaking for more than two decades. A World Without Violence is a personal self-help handbook of peacemaking skills for those wishing to be able to confront and resolve conflicts in their lives. It is based upon well proven and documented conflict resolution principles and programs. At the same time it presents readers with both a vision and a plan of action as to how these peacemaking skills can be scaled up to bring about A World Without Violence.

We believe that violence is the failure of knowing how to do peace - not having learned the skills of doing peace results in our having to rely on violence to satisfy our needs and to resolve our disputes with others. The only way to permanently curb our culture's reliance upon violence is to improve our school systems by adding a new PreK-12 parallel track for learning the basic peace skills to our existing track of academic ABCs. Skills4Peace is a set of formative, responsive and restorative peace skills ranging from Mindfulness to Restorative Practices which will empower us all to resolve our disputes and differences across all sectors of our society without the need to resort to acts of violence. Skills4Peace also advocates for schools to adopt two types of pro-active programs - one to train all students, teachers and school personnel in how to spot the signs of mental instability; and the other to teach all students about their rights and responsibilities under our form of Constitutional Government and how our criminal justice system works and how it can affect them. Once these students have mastered their peace skills they will allow their schools to replace old and failed zero-tolerance discipline programs known as the "school to prison pipeline" with student - manned restorative justice based discipline programs using their newly learned peace skills for doing "peer" peace circles and community conferencing. Upon graduation, they will become part of a steadily growing population of citizens who mastered Skills4Peace in school and will be employing these peace skills in all sectors of our society irreversibly transforming our present-day culture of violence into a restorative one of non-violence as they replace us - the last of the violent generations - in the process. For those of us who are not in school we have created an online survey course at skills4peace.com or skills4peace.academy entitled "PeaceSkills101". This online course provides an overview of the components of Skills4Peace as a guide for those who want to learn them thru self-study using resources that the course provides and also those that it recommends which are available online.

The Force Of Nonviolence written by Judith Butler and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-09 with Political Science categories.

“The most creative and courageous social theorist working today” examines the ethical binds that emerge within the force field of violence (Cornel West). “ . . . nonviolence is often seen as passive and resolutely individual. Butler’s philosophical inquiry argues that it is in fact a shrewd and even aggressive collective political tactic.” —New York Times Judith Butler shows how an ethic of nonviolence must be connected to a broader political struggle for social equality. While many think of nonviolence as passive or individualist, Butler argues nonviolence is an ethical position found in the midst of the political field. She champions an ‘aggressive’ nonviolence, which accepts hostility as part of our psychic constitution—but values ambivalence as a way of checking the conversion of aggression into violence. Some challengers say a politics of nonviolence is subjective: What qualifies as violence versus nonviolence? This distinction is often mobilized in the service of ratifying the state’s monopoly on violence. Considering nonviolence as an ethical problem within a political philosophy requires two things: a critique of individualism and an understanding of the psychosocial dimensions of violence. Butler draws upon Foucault, Fanon, Freud, and Benjamin to consider how the interdiction against violence fails to include lives regarded as ‘ungrievable’. By considering how “racial phantasms” inform justifications of state and administrative violence, Butler tracks how violence is often attributed to those who are most severely exposed to its lethal effects. Ultimately, the struggle for nonviolence is found in modes of resistance and social movements that separate aggression from its destructive aims to affirm the living potentials of radical egalitarian politics.
