This volume presents a comprehensive analysis of global future scenarios and their impact on a growing, shared culture. Ever since the end of the Cold War, a diverse range of future concepts has emerged in various areas of academia—and even in popular journalism. A number of these key concepts—‘the end of history,’ ‘the clash of civilizations,’ ‘the coming anarchy,’ ‘the world is flat,’ ‘soft power,’ ‘the post-American century’—suggest what could become characteristic of this new, interconnected world. Ulf Hannerz scrutinizes these ideas, considers their legacy, and suggests further dialogue between authors of the ‘American scenario’ and commentators elsewhere.

Past Present And Future Contributions Of Cognitive Writing Research To Cognitive Psychology written by Virginia Wise Berninger and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-04 with Psychology categories.

This volume tells the story of research on the cognitive processes of writing—from the perspectives of the early pioneers, the contemporary contributors, and visions of the future for the field. Writing processes yield important insights into human cognition, and is increasingly becoming a mainstream topic of investigation in cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Technological advances have made it possible to study cognitive writing processes as writing unfolds in real time. This book provides an introduction to these technologies. The first part of the volume provides the historical context for the significance of writing research for contemporary cognitive psychology and honors the pioneers in cognitive and social-cognitive research in this field. The book then explores the rapidly expanding work on the social foundations of cognitive processes in writing and considers not only gender differences but also gender similarities in writing. The third part presents a lifespan view of writing in early and middle childhood, adolescence, higher education, and the world of work. There follows an examination of the relationships of language processes –at the word, sentence, and text levels—to the cognitive processes in writing. Part V covers representative research on the cognitive processes of writing—translation and reviewing and revision—and the working memory mechanisms that support those processes. A review of the current technologies used to study these cognitive processes on-line as they happen in real time is provided. Part VII provides an introduction to the emerging new field of the cognitive neuroscience of writing made possible by the rapidly evolving brain imaging technologies, which are interpretable in reference to paradigms in cognitive psychology of writing. The final section of the book offers visions of the future of writing research from the perspective of contemporary leaders in writing research.

Early Modern Women S Writing And The Future Of Literary History written by Lara Dodds and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-03 with Literary Criticism categories.

Early Modern Women's Writing and the Future of Literary History demonstrates that a full accounting of early modern women's literary and creative activities is necessary to the future of literary studies writ large. Despite benefiting from a rich body of scholarship and diverse critical practices, early modern women's writing is still treated as an optional or secondary component of Renaissance literary studies as a whole. In this book, Dodds and Dowd offer a state-of-the-field assessment of the critical and theoretical debates that have resulted in this state of affairs in order to advance specific visions for the future. Dodds and Dowd examine how perennial questions about authorship, canon, and literary value have historically influenced scholarship on early modern women's writing and its place within literary studies. Early modern women's writing has been perceived as belated, out of sync with dominant critical trends. Dodds and Dowd show the belatedness of early modern women's writing to be a "happy accident" that positions women's writing as a resource for the renewal of literary history. In both the classroom and in scholarship, early modern women's writing shows the way forward for the field, whether in the revitalization of formalist approaches to literature through an alliance with feminism or in the integration of newer critical methodologies such as premodern critical race studies. This book demonstrates that a feminist literary history that places women's writing at its center is essential to the future of English Renaissance literary studies. There is, in other words, no history of English Renaissance literature without women writers.

Proficiency testing (PT) has been part of Immunogenetics since its early days. Starting from spontaneous interlaboratory comparisons, it gradually moved to more elaborate quality control exercises. Immunogenetics PT finally evolved into a formalized system comprising a range of testing schemes, the rules of which have been fine-tuned and approved with the assistance of professional societies. Current external PT (EPT) schemes offer to survey laboratory performance in all spectra of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H & I) applications, ranging from HLA typing at various resolution levels, to detection and identification of HLA antibodies and crossmatching, to name the most sought categories. Successful performance in EPT has been considered a prerequisite to laboratory accreditation. EPT has been vital to patient care by ensuring valid, clinically relevant typing data is obtained according to recognized standards. In prevailing opinion, participation in EPT contributes to increased laboratory organization and enhanced lab-wide comprehension of the significance of laboratory work in clinical settings. Secondarily, experience with proficiency testing may help raise scientific research quality by emphasizing data validity. The Editors invite all members of histocompatibility and immunogenetics communities, who have been involved in various aspects of PT, to submit manuscripts: - describing the state of the art of H & I PT, - surveying options available for interested laboratories in diverse continents/regions, - reporting the experiences of PT participants and/or PT providers, - assessing the awareness of, and/or states of, PT issues in the community, etc. - Proposing new areas for PT in H & I. Opinion and Perspective articles discussing the future of Proficiency testing are welcome, along with reviews and original manuscripts. Contributions may be based on solid research data; however, a personal reflection of experience from participation in or organizing a PT scheme would be also interesting to readers and welcomed by The Editors.
