English summary: In a new methodical approach, Stefan Alkier focuses on the relationship between miracles and reality. He begins by developing a semiotic text concept and then rewords the question of miracles: What do concepts of reality look like in those worlds in which reports of miracles are allowed to unfold their credibility? What function do the reports of miracles have for the creation of these worlds? Using these questions as a backdrop, Stefan Alkier examines the Pauline Epistles. In doing so, he attains a new understanding of miracles which leads the reader away from the dilemma of the oppositional 'fact versus fiction' or 'rehistorization versus demythologization'.

The Temple In The Gospel Of Mark written by Timothy C. Gray and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with History categories.

Timothy C. Gray analyzes one of the most striking elements of Mark's story: the vital role the temple plays from Jesus' entry into Jerusalem to the moment of his death. Mark brings a dramatic tension into his narrative by juxtaposing Jesus and the temple. The author's narrative analysis of Mark's use of the temple sheds light on the theological portrait Mark paints of Jesus' mission, teaching, and identity. This focus upon the temple serves to show how Jesus and his community will replace the temple. Mark also employs the temple as the backdrop for much of the passion narrative in order to portray the death of Jesus in an eschatological vision that is deeply linked to the temple. A careful examination of Mark's use of intertextuality, especially in the eschatological discourse (Mark 13), discloses a pattern of OT texts that cluster around prophetic oracles that relate to the destruction of the first temple and other prophetic texts that point to the restoration of Israel that would follow such a tribulation. Noting Mark's reliance on the prophetic eschatology of Israel opens up a new perspective on Mark's eschatology. The fate of the temple and Jesus are intertwined for Mark.

Memory In The Bible And Antiquity written by Stephen C. Barton and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Literary Criticism categories.

The volume brings together essays that explore the topic of memory and remembrance in the ancient world, taking into account the Hebrew Bible, ancient Judaism, the classical world, the New Testament and Early Christianity . The essays, which focus on a wide range of sources from antiquity, open up new questions about the social and religious function of memory. As a collection, they demonstrate how much social memory theory can contribute to the understanding of the ways ancient texts were, on the one hand, shaped by conventions of memory and, on the other hand, participated in and contributed to evolving strategies for reading 'the past'.Contributors:Loren T. Jews Or Christians written by Giorgio Jossa and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with History categories.

When was Christianity born? When was it that Christianity, born as a particular current within Judaism, constituted itself as a religion different and separate from the Jewish religion? The question has been asked, and the problem has therefore been considered, since the historical-critical investigation of Christian origins began. However the problem has become acute only in the last few decades, because of the occurrence of a whole series of circumstances and of reflections that have deeply changed the historiographic understanding regarding Judaism in the first century, and thus the origins of Christianity as well. Traditional opinion considered the founders of Christianity to be Jesus of Nazareth and Paul of Tarsus. Recent studies however affirm that a Christian religion as distinct from the Jewish religion can be spoken of only much later, and that for the entire first century, and for at least a part of the second century, Christianity was nothing more than a sect within Judaism. Dealing with the problem from an historical point of view, and thus considering not only Christianity of Jewish origin but also that of gentile origin, Giorgio Jossa demonstrates that the birth of a Christian identity as distinct from Jewish identity must actually be dated back to the first period of life of the community of Jesus.

Jesus As The Eschatological Davidic Shepherd written by Young S. Chae and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Religion categories.

Young S. Chae analyzes the puzzling association of the Son of David with Jesus' healing ministry in the First Gospel. This, along with the Gospel's rich shepherd/sheep images and the theme of the restoration of the lost sheep of the house of Israel, finds a significant clue in the picture of Jesus as the eschatological Davidic Shepherd according to the pattern of the Davidic Shepherd tradition in the Old Testament and Second Temple Judaism. As Matthew communicates the identity and mission of Jesus, he is conversant with this tradition, particularly Ezekiel 34 and 37 as well as Micah 2-5 and Zechariah 9-14. The story of the First Gospel is the story of the return of YHWH as the eschatological Shepherd for the lost sheep of Israel and also that of the one Davidic Shepherd-Appointee as the eschatological Teacher-Prince in the midst of his one eschatological flock.
