This is not a novel. This is not a historical account. This is, in fact, the training manual of the S.O.E in World War 2. This document was the official training manual for every allied spy and counter-espionage agent in World War 2. Written by the S.O.E. (M.I.6), it was soon picked up and used by the American OSS (the originator of the CIA). In great detail, it describes such subjects as Explosives, Fieldcraft, Cyphers, and Propoganda. Care has been taken to deliver the manual in its original style and format. The document is dated at 1943, and as far as we know is published in its entirety. At over 400 pages, it is both exhaustive and painstakingly detailed. For instance... " 5. Searching a Prisoner, if you are armed.... Kill him first. If that is inconvenient, make him lie face to the ground, hands out in front of him. Knock him out, with rifle butt, side or butt of the pistol or with your boot. Then search him." Nice, huh? A great read, superb information, and a unique insight into a dark age of history. Introduction by Ian Hall

A history of what life was like at Britain’s World War II spy school, from how it was staffed to what lessons were taught, and more. Considering the number of books that have been written about Special Operations Executive, very little has been revealed about the most frequently mentioned of its training establishments, the Finishing School on Lord Montagu’s estate at Beaulieu in Hampshire. So secret were the activities that even the Montagu family whose home was in the middle of the school complex, were unaware of what was in fact taking place. Virtually nothing was known about who designed the courses and did the teaching, how the students were taught or where the instructors had obtained their knowledge of spycrafts. Wishing to find out more, Lord Montagu commissioned local historian Cyril Cunningham to undertake the necessary research, unaware that Cunningham was a former Intelligence officer. This book is the outcome of a difficult investigation, and a very remarkable story it is too. Large numbers of agents from Britain and the Nazi-occupied countries of Europe were trained at Beaulieu in the delicate arts of secret inks, coding, clandestine communications, and black propaganda, along with such nefarious skills as silent killing, housebreaking, safe-blowing, forgery, unattributable sabotage, and survival techniques. They were taught by some extraordinary characters including former spies, a professional burglar, and the infamous double-agent Kim Philby, who played a significant role in the design of the curriculum.

The training took place in country houses and other secluded locations ranging from the Highlands of Scotland to Singapore and Canada. An array of unconventional skills are covered - from burglary, close combat and silent killing through to propaganda, surveillance and disguise - giving insight into the workings of one of World War II's most intriguing organizations. In this #1 Kindle bestseller, Eric Erickson, the most important American spy of WWII, has a dangerous secret to keep. In 1942, the Brooklyn-born Erickson was a millionaire oil mogul who volunteered for a dangerous mission inside the Third Reich: locating the top-secret synthetic oil plants that kept the German war machine running. To fool the Nazis, Erickson played the role of a collaborator. He hung a portrait of Hitler in his apartment and "disowned" his Jewish best friend, then flew to Berlin, where he charmed Himmler and signed lucrative oil deals with the architects of the Final Solution. All the while, he was visiting the oil refineries and passing their coordinates to Allied Bomber Command, who destroyed the plants in a series of B-17 raids, helping to end the war early. After the war, Erickson's was revealed as a secret agent and received the Medal of Freedom for his bravery. William Holden even played him in a hit Hollywood movie. For a brief moment in the early '60s, Erickson was the most famous spy in the world. His secret? He hadn't played a Nazi collaborator. He'd actually been one - a war profiteer who'd made millions of trading with Hitler before having a change of heart. Black-listed by the Allies and disowned by his family, Erickson had volunteered for the spy mission in order to redeem himself, and ended up saving thousands of Allied lives. Based on newly-discovered archives in Sweden, The Secret Agent is a riveting piece of narrative nonfiction that tells the true story of Erickson's remarkable life for the first time.

During World War II, training in the black arts of covert operation was vital preparation for the “ungentlemanly warfare” waged by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) against Hitler’s Germany and Tojo’s Japan. In the early years of the war, the SOE set up top secret training schools to instruct prospective agents in the art of being a spy. Soon there was an international network of schools in operation in secluded locations ranging from the Scottish Highlands to Singapore and Canada. Reproduced here is one of the most comprehensive training syllabi used at SOE’s Special Training Schools (STSs) instructing agents on how to wreak maximum havoc in occupied Europe and beyond. A staggering array of unconventional skills are covered—from burglary, close combat, and silent killing, to utilizing propaganda, surveillance, and disguise—giving an unprecedented insight into the workings of one of WWII’s most intriguing organizations. "Aurora" is the story of a young school teacher from rural Alabama who ventured to New York where she fell in love with a romantic, young gentleman from old German aristocracy. They marry, have two children, and take a steamer to Germany. In Germany Aurora discovers she is married to an agent engaged in espionage against her country. After a difficult divorce, she gains custody of her children and reestablishes herself within the employment of the American Consulate in Hamburg. In 1941, when the Consulate expelled all employees prior to the U.S. declaration of war against Germany, Aurora leaves for Portugal via Frankfurt with her two children. In route, she is confronted by Gestapo agents and her children are abducted. She returns to Hamburg to fight for the return of her children. With the assistance of a Nazi friend, she locates her children and remains in Hamburg until July 1943 when her home was totally destroyed by the fire storm that killed nearly 45,000 civilians and reduced most of the city to rubble. Aurora's memoir recounts struggles to keep her children and survive the bombardment during Operation Gomorrah.
