Este libro necesario se dedica a desmenuzar la trayectoria de la llamada "cúpula empresarial" y, dentro de ella, de los grupos económicos locales y el capital extranjero durante el siglo XX y hasta hoy: un análisis imprescindible si se quiere abordar en serio ciertos problemas actuales como la inflación, la fuga de capitales al exterior o la recurrente "falta de dólares". Con probado rigor conceptual y el respaldo empírico de una exhaustiva e inédita base de datos sobre estas empresas y sus actividades, los autores ponen en primer plano las circunstancias nacionales e internacionales que caracterizan cada período, desde el modelo oligárquico agroexportador y la primera valorización financiera hasta las privatizaciones, la megadevaluación, la posconvertibilidad y la nueva valorización financiera durante el gobierno de Mauricio Macri. Así, por ejemplo, abordan la apuesta histórica de los grupos económicos locales por consolidar una industrialización acotada a las exportaciones. Entre 2017 y 2018 surgieron en la Argentina varios grupos de análisis y discusión: intelectuales, activistas, investigadores, periodistas se reunían en espacios a veces improvisados para pensar la política y sentar posición con documentos que circulaban sobre todo en redes. Sus integrantes venían de diversas tradiciones e identidades, pero los unían la preocupación por los efectos devastadores de las políticas macristas y el propósito de trabajar por una alternativa capaz de disputar la por entonces casi segura reelección de Cambiemos. Lejos de romperse o dividirse por sus diferencias, y lejos también de sobreactuar una unidad sin tensiones, ese repertorio de colectivos confluyó en Agenda Argentina, un espacio heterogéneo y plural de pensamiento que, aun cuando acompañe el proyecto del Frente de Todos, no se define como su portavoz orgánico. Este libro refleja esa experiencia colectiva con una originalidad doble: por un lado, reúne a autoras y autores jóvenes, con una marca generacional nítida; por la otra, si bien retoma los grandes nudos del debate público y las ciencias sociales (élites, modelos de desarrollo, campo versus industria, políticas públicas), suma a la agenda cuestiones novedosas e incluso desconcertantes (la irrupción de los feminismos, la economía de plataformas y el nuevo mapa hiperconcentrado de medios, los cambios en el mundo fragmentado y precarizado del trabajo, el sentido que tiene para los jóvenes acceder al consumo). Certain philosophers of Antiquity compared the world to a large animal; but if the world were an animal, it would have a skin similar to the skin that envelops each living being and gives it unity. The world is neither an animal nor a machine but an interminable jumble whose destination is nothing other than the maelstrom in which the very idea of the world slips away. The world has no skin other than the turbulence that makes histories, customs, moments of grandeur and decadence. Because it is not a skin, this extension of space-time is much more fragile than the skins that are already always fragile, because everything here touches its extremities. The world is everything that passes between us – ourselves and everything that happens to us, everything that becomes of our contacts, our gazes, our movements; and through referrals from skin to skin, from the fleeting to the immemorial, you reach, without even knowing it, the entire actuality of the world: the act of its existence. Neoliberalism is fracturing, but what will emerge in its wake? The global political, ecological, economic, and social breakdown—symbolized by Trump’s election—has destroyed faith that neoliberal capitalism is beneficial to the majority. Nancy Fraser explores how this faith was built through the late twentieth century by balancing two central tenets: recognition (who deserves rights) and distribution (who deserves income). When these begin to fray, new forms of outsider populist politics emerge on the left and the right.
