"It is generally believed that Mao Zedong’s populism was an abrupt departure from traditional Chinese thought. This study demonstrates that many of its key concepts had been developed several decades earlier by young May Fourth intellectuals, including Liu Fu, Zhou Zuoren, and Gu Jiegang. The Chinese folk-literature movement, begun at National Beijing University in 1918, changed the attitudes of Chinese intellectuals toward literature and toward the common people. Turning their backs on “high culture” and Confucianism, young folklorists began “going to the people,” particularly peasants, to gather the songs, legends, children’s stories, and proverbs that Chang-tai Hung here describes and analyzes. Their focus on rural culture, rural people, and rural problems was later to be expanded by the Chinese Communist revolutionaries."

It constructs a two-layered and two-faceted sociological analytical framework to analyze the causes of depression in China and account for the comparatively low rate of depression in the country, and provides a sociological interpretation of depression in China from a global perspective that has rarely been adopted in previous sociological studies in China. Presenting first-hand data and case studies, it describes and analyzes patients’ subjective experience and actions as well as physicians’ viewpoints. It also includes interviews with 34 patients, 4 family members, 3 psychological consultants and 5 psychiatrists. Offering an integrated interpretation of depression in China from the perspectives of sociology, medical science and psychology, this book is intended primarily, but not exclusively, for the growing body of researchers and students who are looking for ways of analyzing depression, especially in China. It is also a valuable resource for practitioners working in the field.

First of all,I define self-presentation as an act of speaking out one's ideas, and in order to get one's ideas across, good ablity of this self-resentation is quite necessary. Now in Taiwan, there are many people who enrol in graduate schools to study Japanese or go to Japan to study, and it gives them many chances to give accademic speeches. So for those people it is very necessary to have good self-presentation ability, especially in Japanese. In order to show the characteristics or the structual patterns of good self-presentation,this research focuses on impromptu speech as the subject of analysis. As an example:"2007 university-college Japanese speech contest:the final by students majoring in Japanese-presented by the Ministry of education/Radio Taiwan international/the Japan interchange association".From this competition,I picked up all the 11 speeches for my analysis and tried to see what well-received speeches had in common. In that contest, five speeches recieved good evaluation from the judges and consequently won awards, but the other six were not awarded. This time I examined especially the consistency and the connectivity of the sentences in both the award-winning speeches and the non-award ones using some illustrations, compared the results of both cases, and made conclusions about what the good speeches invloved. As for the speech's consistency,I firstly checked the former part of its text and then estimated what would naturally follow in the context, and if the estimation matches the latter part of the text,it means the speech has good consistency. And as for the connectivity of the sentences,I checked it mainly on the usage of the conjunctions that connect the sentences and also show their relation to each other. As a result, not all of them but three out of the five award-winning speeches had good consistency,so it probably made them presented more clearly and led to the good evaluation by the judges. But all the non-award speeches didn't have consistency, therefore they were not easy for listeners to understand. So the conclusion is that speech,or self-presentation,with good consistency tends to be well recieved. As for how the connectivity of the sentences influenced the style of the speeches and their assesment by the judges,I couldn

Contemporary New Confucianism I written by Qiyong Guo and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-20 with Philosophy categories.

As the first volume of a two-volume seminal work on contemporary New Confucianism in China, this book charts the development of this intellectual trend and examines four leading thinkers of this intellectual movement in the 20th century. Contemporary New Confucianism refers to the Confucianism or Confucian thought that has emerged in China since the 1920s and that seeks to revive Confucian spirituality in a changing society. This volume first analyzes the cultural context, logical approach, major themes, and problems of New Confucianism before delving into the four leading figures, namely Liang Shumin, Xiong Shili, Ma Yifu, and Qian Mu. The chapter on Liang Shumin analyzes his concept of will, his arguments on Confucian moral ideals, and his theory of culture. It then discusses Xiong Shili's contribution to the philosophical metaphysics of New Confucianism. The following chapter on Ma Yifu examines his theory of the mind, nature, and the six arts. The final chapter on Qian Mu presents his views on nationality, history, and the Chinese classics. This title will appeal to scholars and students of modern and contemporary Confucianism, intellectual history, philosophy and thought of contemporary China, and comparative philosophy.
