We know that the primary reason we eat is because our body needs fuel to survive, yet our relationship with food extends far beyond that---it's not just about what we should or shouldn't be eating. It incorporates aspects of our physiology, emotions, behaviors, and thought patterns, and how we feel about our lives, all rooted in a culture that supports and fosters an unhealthy, disordered relationship with food. Despite our repeated efforts, many of us find ourselves falling back into the same habitual patterns around food---habits that keep us overweight and unhappy. Laura Dawn sheds light on how we get hooked on the food struggle from six primary perspectives: environmental, physiological, behavioral, mental, emotional and spiritual, and provides concrete steps you can take to unhook yourself from the struggle with food. "Unhooked" cuts through the over-complex and contradictory dieting information flooding the market and provides a clear blueprint for people to step onto the path of vibrant health and freedom from the struggle. "Unhooked" approaches the pertinent topic of overeating from a multi-dimensional, holistic, and mindfulness-based approach that encompasses the broader perspective of healing our relationship with food from the inside-out. Drawing on a range of easy-to-understand information, Laura Dawn consistently points to nature, to science, to the wisdom traditions and personal experience for the answers so many seek. "Unhooked" offers a unique framework of solutions, practical tips, a wealth of wisdom and easy to implement advice for anyone struggling with food---whether it be chronic overeating, incessant cravings, food addiction, yo-yo dieting, disordered eating, the inability to eat certain foods in moderation, obsession with weight and preoccupation with food that so many millions of people experience each and every day. "Unhooked" empowers readers to shift their perspective from food as enemy to food as friend, fueling the transformation to vibrant health and reminds us that we are all worthy to live the healthy lives of our dreams.

Many people dream of "someday buying a small quaint place in the country, to own two cows and watch the birds," in the words of Texas ranchwoman Amanda Spenrath Geistweidt. But only a few are cut out for the unrelenting work that makes a family ranching operation successful. Don't Make Me Go to Town presents an eloquent photo-documentary of eight women who have chosen to make ranching in the Texas Hill Country their way of life. Ranging from young mothers to elderly grandmothers, these women offer vivid accounts of raising livestock in a rugged land, cut off from amenities and amusements that most people take for granted, and loving the hard lives they've chosen. Rhonda Lashley Lopez began making photographic portraits of Texas Hill Country ranchwomen in 1993 and has followed their lives through the intervening years. She presents their stories through her images and the women's own words, listening in as the ranchwomen describe the pleasures and difficulties of raising sheep, Angora goats, and cattle on the Edwards Plateau west of Austin and north of San Antonio. Their stories record the struggles that all ranchers face—vagaries of weather and livestock markets, among them—as well as the extra challenges of being women raising families and keeping things going on the home front while also riding the range. Yet, to a woman, they all passionately embrace family ranching as a way of life and describe their efforts to pass it on to future generations.

The impact of digital technology on the musical economy has been profound. From its production, reproduction, distribution, and consumption, the advent of MP3 and the use of the Internet as a medium of distribution has brought about a significant transformation in the way that music is made, how it is purchased and listened to, and, significantly, how the musical economy itself is able to reproduce itself. In the late 1990s the obscure practice of 'ripping' tracks from CDs through the use of compression programmes was transformed from the illegal hobby of a few thousand computer specialists to a practice available to millions of people worldwide through the development of peer-to-peer computer networks. This continues to have important implications for the viability of the musical economy. At the same time, the production of music has become more accessible and the role of key gatekeepers in the industry—such as record companies and recording studios— has been undermined, whilst the increased accessibility of music at reduced cost via the Internet has revalorised live performance, and now generates revenues higher than recorded music. The early 21st century has provided an extraordinary case study of an industry in flux, and one that throws light on the relationship between culture and economy, between passion and calculation. This book provides a theoretically grounded account of the implications of digital technology on the musical economy, and develops the concept of the musical network to understand the transformation of this economy over space and through time.

"A perfect guide to getting the non-essentials out of the way, so that simple joys can make their way into our lives." -- Marianne Williamson, author of A Return to Love "If you want to grow, you gotta let go," is the mantra that bestselling author, columnist, and life coach Gail Blanke lives by. That means eliminating all the clutter - physical and emotional - that holds you back, weighs you down, or just makes you feel bad about yourself. In Throw Out Fifty Things she takes us through each room of the house - from the attic to the garage - and even to the far reaches of our minds. Through poignant and humorous stories, she inspires us to get rid of the "life plaque" we've allowed to build-up there. That junk drawer (you know that drawer) in the kitchen? Empty it! Those old regrets? Throw 'em out! That make-up from your "old" look? Toss it! That relationship that depresses you? Dump it! Once you've hit fifty (you'll be surprised how easy it is to get there) and once you've thrown out that too-tight belt and too-small view of yourself, you'll be ready to step out into the clearing and into the next, and greatest, segment of your life.
