Here is the uplifting and inspirational children's picture book that has all the clams talking - and everyone else singing! What does a bright young fish (Billy) do when he has the unusual dream of sailing a ship - but others scoff at his efforts? He dons a Captain's hat and doesn't let them get him down! He stays determined, works hard, and studies how to achieve his dream! What if Billy learns his dream is too big to achieve by himself alone? Then he becomes a leader and builds a crew of diverse friends with unique talents who also believe in his dream! And how does Billy and his crew stay motivated to tackle their huge goal? They sing a song, of course! Billy's positive ballad of determination and hope helps them stay synchronized and reminds them of their shared goal. This is the Ballad of Billy McFee! Billy is a colorful and resourceful young fish who dreams of sailing a ship that he found stuck in the muck at the bottom of the sea. Billy sees potential in the ship while everyone else swims right past. Billy struggles to free the ship while shrugging off negative comments from onlookers (a pair of naysayer clams). When Billy cannot move the ship by himself, he becomes a leader and builds a crew of diverse friends: a friendly shark, a big strong whale, and an intellectual crab. Billy and his friends sing as they work, just as sailors of yore sang to synchronize their efforts. But unlike many old sea shanties, the Ballad of Billy McFee is friendly to all sea creatures and is appropriate for people of all ages. How will YOU tell the Ballad of Billy McFee? The Ballad of Billy McFee is packed to the gills with character development, subplots, puns, and Easter eggs for young and old to find. For example, everyone in the story is on a journey of some kind - whether it be physical or mental, intended or unintended. Some readers will want to get out the magnifying glass and explore the covers of the books which the crab (Emma) reads on her journey of self-improvement. Others will want to follow the antics of the naysayer clams. And some readers (especially the singers) may want to ignore all that and just sing the ballad, glancing at the pictures and turning the pages to keep time with the rhythm. It's all good! There is no wrong way to read or sing the Ballad of Billy McFee. This book is all about celebrating our differences. Through our diversity, we are stronger together! How will YOU tell Billy's uplifting story? Some people read it like a rhyming story. Some people sing it to the tune of the Wellerman. Some people rap it to a hip hop beat. Some people make up their own tune. You can read it - you can sing it - whatever floats YOUR boat!

Ballads And Songs Of Southern Michigan written by Emelyn Gardner and has been published by University of Michigan Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-30 with Music categories.

This book presents old-time Michigan, its songs and their tunes, collected and edited by Emelyn E. Gardner, a folklorist of wide experience, the author of Folklore from the Schoharie Hills, with the aid of Geraldine Jencks Chickering. Michigan's early settlers, coming from the older eastern states, both north and south, with many from England, Scotland, and the British North American possessions, brought with them their songs, which they sang happily at work and play, handing them down from generation to generation, and often adapting centuries-old ballads to their new environment. Many worked for a time in the woods and picked up the mournful, or jolly, ballads that were circulated through the camps by lumberjacks drifting in from the Maine and Canadian forests. There are old folks still alive who treasure these ancient songs, and young people who have learned them from their parents and grandparents—or even from the radio. Ballads and Songs of Southern Michigan collects and preserves these cherished possessions of the old frontier. With scholarly accuracy their history is recounted; the names of those who sang them are reported. The tunes of many are reproduced; there are ample indices and bibliography. Wilfred B. Shaw's ink drawings add much to the charm of the book. It is a worthy addition both to the literature of folklore and balladry, and to that of pioneer American history.

Ballads And Sea Songs Of Newfoundland written by Grace Yarrow Mansfield and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1933 with Music categories.

Newfoundland songs are diverse in origin. Vast numbers of them come from the British Isles, especially from England and Ireland; many are composed in Newfoundland, usually on English or Irish models; a lesser number of American, Canadian, and French songs are current. The ballads to be found in the Child collection are probably the oldest now sung. Then there are many seventeenth- and eighteenth-century broadside ballads, particularly English, and many nineteenth-century compositions. Such are the backgrounds from which the compilers of this volume have drawn their unusually interesting and delightful collection of ballad texts and ballad music. Expeditions to the island in 1920 and 1929 furnished the tunes; and a genuine interest in folk-literature assured the care and accuracy of the work.
