Seit ihrem spektakulären Wahl erfolg in den bayerischen Landtagswahlen vom 27. Oktober 1974 ist die CSU zu einem besonders interessanten Phänomen im gesellschaftlich-politischen Kräftefeld der Bundesrepublik geworden. Der Aufstieg und das Erscheinungsbild dieser konservativen, auch in der Bundespolitik sehr ehrgeizigen und aktiven Landespartei ist zwar von der politischen Publizistik schon seit Ende der fünfziger Jahre nicht nur in Hinsicht auf die ihr im Laufe der Jahre zugewachsenen Rolle als "bayerischer Staatspartei", sondern auch auf den von ihrer Führung lautstark vertretenen Anspruch, ein Element der Integration und der Erneuerung der bundesdeutschen Politik zu sein, aufmerksam beobachtet worden. Der Durchbruch indessen, den die Partei mit ihrem ungewöhnlichen Wahlsieg im Oktober vergangenen Jahres in der ganzen Breite des in Bayern besonders differenzierten Wählerpotentials erzielte, hat zu allerlei Spekulationen über die Voraussetzungen und die Ursachen sowie über die gesellschaftlichen und politischen Folgen dieses Erfolges geführt. Verfolgt man die Resonanz dieser bundesweiten Diskussion in den ad hoc-Analysen und Trendberechnungen der seriösen Tagespresse, so fällt auf, daß die Suche nach den Ursachen der unerwartet großen Zunahme an Wählerstimmen der CSU im Vordergrund der Meinungsbildung steht.
