Vierzig Jahre steht das „Geteilte Deutschland“ im Mittelpunkt des Ost-West-Konflikts. Erst zu Beginn der 70er Jahre regeln beide Seiten ihr gegenseitiges Verhältnis mit dem Grundlagenvertrag. Die DDR strebt völkerrechtliche Beziehungen an. Die analytisch deskriptive Gesamtdarstellung umfasst eine Reihe von Fallstudien, die in ihrer Gesamtschau aufzeigen: Sowohl die sozial-liberale als auch christlich-liberale Koalition sowie die jeweiligen Parteien kommen dem DDR-Regime weit entgegen - weiter als es oft notwendig gewesen wäre, so deutschlandpolitische Experten. Mit der vorliegenden Studie versucht die Autorin eine neue Deutung der Deutschlandpolitik in der Zeit von 1969 bis 1990.
