ZENTROPIA er historien om et makkerpar, der sætter sig for at revolutionere dansk film. Og gør det – på godt og ondt. Det hele startede i 1987, da Lars von Trier og Peter Aalbæk Jensen skulle lave en reklamefilm sammen. Om ikke andet kunne de i hvert fald blive enige om, at alle de andre var nogle hængerøve. Derefter gik det hurtigt. I 1992 etablerede de Zentropa med den klare arbejdsdeling, at Lars von Trier lavede kunsten, mens Peter Aalbæk Jensen tog sig af økonomien. Det gjorde de med stor succes. Lars von Triers film vandt internationale priser, selskabet tjente penge og i 1999 stod Aalbæk og von Trier bag åbningen af Filmbyen i Avedøre. Ambitionen var et kreativt frirum, hvor dansk film kunne blomstre yderligere. Men der er også en bagside. ZENTROPIA er historien om en lille kreativ virksomhed, der vokser til at blive netop sådan en mastodont, firmaets grundlæggere i sin tid definerede sig som modsætning til. En historie om kreativitet, magt og uskyldstab i dansk film. Anne Mette Lundtofte har i tre år fulgt Zentropa tæt, og resultatet er et intenst dokudrama om virksomheden, om op- og ikke mindst om nedturene, og selvfølgelig om Lars von Trier og Peter Aalbæk Jensens samarbejde. Det ene kan ikke skilles fra det andet.

Hope is the most reliable sustainer of life. It offers the promise of something good in the future, contributes to resilience, and keeps one going. However, there are circumstances when hope dries up. This book seeks to map out such dark terrain of hopelessness. While it allows for the fact that a modicum of hopelessness might help in reducing infantile omnipotence and curtailing fixation on unrealistic goals, its focus is upon severe and clinically significant shades of hopelessness. The book opens with a broad overview of the nature, developmental origins, and technical implications of hope and hopelessness, and closes with a thoughtful summary, synthesis, and critique of the intervening essays; this summary forges both theoretically and technically significant links between the experiences of helplessness and hopelessness. Sandwiched between these opening and closing commentaries are nine essays which address the ontogenetic trajectory, phenomenological variations, cultural and literary portrayals, and clinical ramifications of sustained hopelessness.

Reading Contemporary Serial Television Universes provides a new framework—the metaphor of the narrative ecosystem—for the analysis of serial television narratives. Contributors use this metaphor to address the ever-expanding and evolving structure of narratives far beyond their usual spatial and temporal borders, in general and in reference to specific series. Other scholarly approaches consider each narrative as composed of modular elements, which combine to create a bigger picture. The narrative ecosystem approach, on the other hand, argues that each portion of the narrative world contains all of the main elements that characterize the world as a whole, such as narrative tensions, production structures, creative dynamics and functions. The volume details the implications of the narrative ecosystem for narrative theory and the study of seriality, audiences and fandoms, production, and the analysis of the products themselves.

As Frances Fox Piven and Richard Cloward argued in the early seventies, in a capitalist economy, social welfare policies alternatingly serve political and economic ends as circumstances dictate. In moments of political stability, governments emphasize a capitalistic work ethic (even if it means working a job that will leave one impoverished); when times are less politically stable, states liberalize welfare policies to recreate the conditions for political acquiescence. Sanford Schram argues in this new book that each shift produces its own path dependency even as it represents yet another iteration of what he (somewhat ironically) calls "ordinary capitalism," where the changes in market logic inevitably produce changes in the structure of the state. In today's ordinary capitalism, neoliberalism is the prevailing political-economic logic that has contributed significantly to unprecedented levels of inequality in an already unequal society. As the new normal, neoliberalism has marketization of the state as a core feature, heightening the role of economic actors, especially financiers, in shaping public policy. The results include increased economic precarity among the general population, giving rise to dramatic political responses on both the Left and the Right (Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party in particular). Schram examines neoliberalism's constraints on politics as well as social and economic policy and gives special attention to the role protest politics plays in keeping alive the possibilities for ordinary people to exercise political agency. The Return of Ordinary Capitalism concludes with political strategies for working through--rather than around--neoliberalism via a radical, rather than status-quo-reinforcing, incrementalism.
