Il racconto mette in evidenza il conflitto tra il lato oscuro della tecnologia (nelle mani di Supercalcolatori, Enti Supremi e menti malate) e una possibile evoluzione positiva di una società altamente tecnologizzata. Quindi affiora un’idea intrigante, su come potrebbe funzionare una futura democrazia con l’aiuto della tecnologia. E tra i tanti possibili, la “Cognocrazia” è il modello che emerge. Ma non è il primo e non sarà neppure l'ultimo.
