Indem innere Bilder sichtbar gemacht und in Planungsprozesse einbezogen werden, eröffnet sich ein Potenzial für die zukünftige Landschaftsentwicklung. Die vorliegende Studie basiert auf einem transdisziplinären Forschungsansatz. Sie befasst sich mit den Zusammenhängen zwischen Landschaft, Landschaftsbewusstsein und landschaftlicher Identität und versucht, diese empirisch zu erhärten. In der peripheren Region Glarus Süd geht sie auf Spurensuche zwischen Berg und Tal, zwischen historischen Kulturlandschaften und infrastrukturgeprägten Alltagsumgebungen und untersucht Übereinstimmungen und Differenzen zwischen realer Landschaft und dem Landschaftsbild in den Köpfen der lokalen Bevölkerung. Am Beispiel Glarus Süd werden Ansätze für eine landschaftsorientierte Raumentwicklung formuliert und diskutiert, welche der Landschaft als Ressource für Identität und Wohlbefinden zukünftig mehr Bedeutung beimessen.
