A thorough understanding of peripheral nerve injuries (PNIs) is necessary for clinicians who manage the medical care of athletes and decide when an athlete may return to competition. This comprehensive, detailed text will help you identify PNIs in their earliest stages and prevent the complications that can develop when these injuries are not diagnosed and treated correctly. Peripheral Nerve Injuries in the Athlete, featuring contributions from leading sports medicine physicians, is aimed at teaching you the necessary skills for early recognition of neurological deficit as a result of sport injury. You'll gain an understanding of basic neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of neurologic injury and recovery; which PNIs are associated with what sport; and available diagnostic procedures, their limitations, and when they should be ordered. Peripheral Nerve Injuries in the Athlete is designed to show you how to accurately diagnose PNIs and how to understand the difference between movements inherent in sport activities and movements resulting from injury. Part I of the book includes six chapters devoted to the anatomy, etiology, and diagnosis of PNIs that can affect athletes (including "industrial athletes"); and part II focuses on the prevention and rehabilitation of PNIs. The text also provides information on -physiology of nerve injury; -regeneration and recovery; -the role of electrodiagnostics in diagnosis and treatment; and -the role of bracing, orthotics, and the biomechanical modifications in preventing injury and reinjury. Helpful case reports are included in part I to illustrate how you can apply what you'll learn to real-life situations. In addition, tables listing innervations of peripheral muscles and joints act as ready references in discerning which muscles and nerves should be addressed during rehabilitation. Peripheral Nerve Injuries in the Athlete is a comprehensive resource that will provide you with the necessary foundation for detection, diagnosis, management, and treatment of PNIs.

Ultrasound Guidance In Regional Anaesthesia written by Peter Marhofer and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-09 with Medical categories.

Ultrasonographic guidance for regional anaesthetic blocks is an innovative technique that allows for the direct visualization of nerves, adjacent structures and the position of the needle, as well as for the precise observation of the spread of local anaesthetic. The advantages of the technique allow for the exact administration of moderate volumes of local anaesthetic, reducing the risk of complications. Written by a physician with 16 years' experience in ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, this second edition of the well-received practical handbook provides a concise summary of the basics of ultrasound technology and the most recent techniques in the use of ultrasound to guide peripheral nerve blocks, focusing specifically on ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve block techniques. All chapters have been carefully revised to provide the most recent knowledge in the topic of ultrasound in regional anaesthesia. A strong focus has still been attached on anatomical descriptions and subsequent practical implementations. Paediatric applications are now included in this new edition to aid paediatric anaesthesiologists, as well as the incorporation of neuraxial techniques to complete the entire topic. With illustrated colour images throughout, this book is highly relevant to anaesthesiologists and pain specialists with an interest in regional anaesthesia.

The Ichthyoses written by Heiko Traupe and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

It is a great pleasure for me to see this work in print. As outlined by Dr. Traupe, at least 20 different types of ichthyosis have been identified to date. This book will effectively help to establish a correct diagnosis, as a basis for genetic counseling. Dr. Traupe proposes a new classification of the ichthyoses, based on reason able clinical criteria. He lets the reader share in his enormous knowledge and safely guides him through the difficult field of nomenclature. He describes the particular nature of these scaling disorders in a manner as simple as possible. During the last few years, research on ichthyosis has become a fascinating scientific challenge due to the introduction of novel investigative approaches. The main advantage of this book lies in the fact that the author successfully combines recent achievements made in lipid analysis, enzymology, electron microscopy, and molecular genetics. Heiko Traupe began his career in dermatology 11 years ago, as a resident in the Department of Dermatology in Munster. As we were both interested in the genetic aspects of skin diseases, this was the starting point of a most fruitful collaboration, which is still continuing. During our common work in Munster, Dr. Traupe was able, thanks to his unceasing clinical curiosity, to describe many novel aspects within the field of ichthyosis, and I took pride in coauthoring papers on new items such as cryptorchidism as a fea ture associated with X-linked recessive ichthyosis, autosomal dominant lamellar ichthyosis, and alopecia ichthyotica.

Diagnostic sonography of the peripheral nervous system is an evolving specialty of musculoskeletal ultrasound. This book provides an in-depth description of sonographic examination technique - how to access an individual nerve with sonography and how to interpret local findings. A particular focus is on sonographic-anatomic correlations. All currently possible clinical applications are addressed, including the evaluation of nerve compression syndromes, traumatic lesions, tumors, and postoperative complications. The book contains a huge number of high-quality patient sonograms, all derived from cases with clinical and in many instances surgical correlation.

Strength Coaching In America written by Jason P. Shurley and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-13 with Sports & Recreation categories.

It’s hard to imagine, but as late as the 1950s, athletes could get kicked off a team if they were caught lifting weights. Coaches had long believed that strength training would slow down a player. Muscle was perceived as a bulky burden; training emphasized speed and strategy, not “brute” strength. Fast forward to today: the highest-paid strength and conditioning coaches can now earn $700,000 a year. Strength Coaching in America delivers the fascinating history behind this revolutionary shift. College football represents a key turning point in this story, and the authors provide vivid details of strength training’s impact on the gridiron, most significantly when University of Nebraska football coach Bob Devaney hired Boyd Epley as a strength coach in 1969. National championships for the Huskers soon followed, leading Epley to launch the game-changing National Strength Coaches Association. Dozens of other influences are explored with equal verve, from the iconic Milo Barbell Company to the wildly popular fitness magazines that challenged physicians’ warnings against strenuous exercise. Charting the rise of a new athletic profession, Strength Coaching in America captures an important transformation in the culture of American sport.
