Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Kommunikation, Note: 2,5, Helmut-Schmidt-Universität - Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der durch die Arbeiten von Habermas und Luhmann entstandene Paradigmenwechsel in der Soziologie und die Tatsache, dass die Ansätze grundverschiedenen Auffassungen folgen, macht es besonders interessant, das kommunikative Handeln von Habermas mit Luhmanns Systemtheorie zu vergleichen, die Unterschiede aufzuzeigen und Gemeinsamkeiten zu finden. Deshalb soll die Zielsetzung dieser Arbeit das Herausarbeiten der konträren Ansichten sein, um diese zu vergleichen und Unterschiede bzw. Gemeinsamkeiten zu beleuchten. Mit dem klassischen Sender-Nachricht-Kanal-Empfänger Model beginnen Claude Shannon und Warren Weaver in den 40er Jahren die Kommunikation fassbar zu machen, um die Kommunikation im nachrichtentechnischen Sinne zu optimieren. Diese aus praktischen Beweggründen entstandene theoretische Feststellung bildet das klassische Model von Kommunikation. Aus dem Urvater der Kommunikationsdefinition haben sich verschiedenste Formen, Definitionen und theoretische Auffassungen von Kommunikation entwickelt. Auch die neueren wissenschaftlichen Beiträge die von Rogers, Schulz von Thun und Watzlawick in die Debatte eingebracht wurden sind oft zitierte Definitionen der Kommunikationswissenschaft. Die Soziologie entwickelt sich im Verlauf der Zeit und maßgeblich auch durch die Arbeiten von George Herbert Mead, weg von einer reinen Handlungswissenschaft. Jürgen Habermas und Niklas Luhmann schafften mit ihren Arbeiten in den 70er Jahren den Einzug der Kommunikationsbegriffe in die soziologische Theoriebildung allerdings tragen sie auch zu einer weiteren Pluralisierung der Soziologie und der Krise der westlichen Soziologie bei, die Alvin Gouldner in seinem 1910 erschinenen Werk „The Coming Crisis of Western Sociology“ ankündigt. Habermas und Luhmanns theoretischen Ansätze verfolgen konträre Auffassungen und Positionen und führen die Debatte um die Kommunikationsforschung an. Aus diesem Grund werden beide Ansätze besonders in Deutschland heftig diskutiert. Luhmann und Habermas haben sich deshalb ebenfalls in eine Debatte begeben und in der „Frankfurt-Bielefeld-Kontroverse“ ihre Positionen und Ansätze ins Rennen geführt und gegeneinander gestellt.

Aber sind die Definitionen, die Funktionen und die Auffassungen der beiden komplett unterschiedlich oder lassen sich doch einige Gemeinsamkeiten erkennen? Um diesen Unterschieden beziehungsweise Ähnlichkeiten in den theoretischen Konstrukten von Luhmann und Habermas auf den Grund zu gehen, werden beide einem Vergleich unterzogen. Zu Beginn werden die Gesellschaftstheoretiker kurz vorgestellt. Anschließend werden die Grundzüge ihrer Theorie grob veranschaulicht, um dann explizit auf den Kommunikationsbegriff einzugehen. Nachdem alle theoretischen Gesichtspunkte berücksichtigt wurden, werden die zwei Auffassungen einander gegenüber gestellt, um die Überschneidungen und Differenzen klar darstellen zu können. Abschließend werden die wichtigsten Aspekte in der Reflexion auf den Punkt gebracht, um der Frage auf den Grund zu gehen, inwiefern und in welchen Gesichtspunkten sich die Auffassungen von Luhmann und Habermas unterscheiden beziehungsweise in welcher Hinsicht diese in eine ähnliche Richtung gehen .
