Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den spezifischen Problemlagen von psychisch kranken Frauen in Einrichtungen der Wohnungslosenhilfe. Sie handelt ferner von den Sozialpädagoginnen, die dort arbeiten und in zunehmendem Maße mit diesen Klientinnen, ihren typischen Verhaltensweisen und Problematiken konfrontiert sind. Durch die Befragung von fünf Expertinnen aus frauenspezifischen Einrichtungen der Münchner Wohnungslosenhilfe wird untersucht, welche zentralen Herausforderungen sich im Hinblick auf eine adäquate Betreuung psychisch kranker Frauen ergeben und welche Forderungen an das Hilfesystem sich hieraus ableiten lassen. Dazu werden nach der Einleitung zunächst themenrelevante Begriffe erörtert und einige Studien, die Berührungspunkte mit dieser Arbeit aufweisen, vorgestellt. Im methodischen Teil der Arbeit wird das Vorgehen bei der Datenerhebung und Auswertung der Interviews beschrieben. Diese Interviews werden im vierten Kapitel durch die Verknüpfung von Theorie und Praxis diskutiert. Im Fazit werden dann die wichtigsten Ergebnisse zusammengefasst, bevor abschließend die zentralen Forderungen an das Hilfesystem formuliert werden. Durch die Auswertung der Interviews wurde deutlich, dass psychisch kranke Frauen in zunehmendem Maße die Dienste von Einrichtungen der Wohnungslosenhilfe in Anspruch nehmen. Ursachen dafür sind u.a. die meist unangemessenen Versorgungsstrukturen fachpsychiatrischer Einrichtungen - und hier insbesondere die hohen Zugangsvoraussetzungen. Hinzu kommen Probleme der KlientInnen auf der Individualebene wie Furcht vor Stigmatisierung, mangelnde Krankheitseinsicht und Kommunikationsfähigkeit aber auch negative Vorerfahrungen. Die Wohnungslosenhilfe ist jedoch den Anforderungen, die sich aus der Betreuung ergeben, weder konzeptionell noch hinsichtlich ihrer Ressourcen gewachsen. Das, von Zurückgezogenheit und geringem Hilfesuchverhalten geprägte, krankheitsspezifische Verhalten der Klientinnen erfordert intensivere und zeitaufwendigere Betreuung. Verschärft wird diese Situation durch fehlende Unterstützungsinstrumentarien, unzureichende Ausbildung des Personals sowie mangelnde Infrastruktur. Dies bedeutet hohe Belastungen für die MitarbeiterInnen und führt nicht selten auch zu Überforderung. Aktuelle Zahlen belegen, dass der Anteil der psychischen Erkrankungen in der Allgemeinbevölkerung in den vergangenen Jahren deutlich zugenommen hat. Ungleich schneller wächst die Zahl von psychisch Kranken in Einrichtungen der Wohnungslosenhilfe - eine Tatsache, auf die soziale Dienste und Einrichtungen häufig weder inhaltlich, zeitlich, räumlich noch finanziell ausreichend vorbereitet sind. Auch fehlt das entsprechende Fachpersonal - meist aus Kostengründen. Die wenigen Untersuchungen zum Thema "Soziale Arbeit mit psychisch kranken Wohnungslosen" beziehen sich fast ausschließlich auf Männer. Untersucht wurden dabei überwiegend soziodemographische Daten, Ursachen und Auslöser von Wohnungslosigkeit sowie die Prävalenz psychiatrischer Krankheitsbilder. Frauen als eigene Zielgruppe finden in diesen Studien, obwohl sie in weit höherem Maße von psychischen Erkrankungen betroffen sind, nur wenig Raum. Studien zu den erhöhten Belastungen des Personals von Einrichtungen der Wohnungslosenhilfe liegen praktisch gar nicht vor. Aus diesem Grund untersuchte die Autorin welche zentralen Herausforderungen sich für das Hilfesystem ergeben, um eine adäquate Betreuung und Unterbringung für wohnungslose psychisch kranke Frauen zu schaffen und dabei die Mitarbeiterinnen der Wohnungslosenhilfe in ihrer Arbeit mit dieser Klientel so zu unterstützen, dass diese langfristig motiviert und zufrieden sind. Zu diesem Zweck wurden Sozialpädagoginnen aus frauenspezifischen Einrichtungen der Münchner Wohnungslosenhilfe zu diesem (Tabu-)Thema befragt und die Interviews anschließend systematisch ausgewertet. Zudem ist durch viele Studien belegt worden, dass bestimmte arme Bevölkerungsgruppen, wie z. B. Wohnungslose, ein signifikant höheres Morbiditäts- und Mortalitätsrisiko haben als Personengruppen, die weniger arm sind. The sociology of science is dominated today by relativists who boldly argue that the content of science is not influenced by evidence from the empirical world but is instead socially constructed in the laboratory. Making Science is the first serious critique by a sociologist of the social constructivist position. Stephen Cole begins by making a distinction between two kinds of knowledge: the core, which consists of those contributions that have passed the test of evaluation and are universally accepted as true and important, and the research frontier, which is composed of all work in progress that is still under evaluation. Of the thousands of scientific contributions made each year, only a handful end up in the core. What distinguishes those that are successful? Agreeing with the constructivists, Cole argues that there exists no set of rules that enables scientists to certify the validity of frontier knowledge. This knowledge is "underdetermined" by the evidence, and therefore social factors--such as professional characteristics and intellectual authority--can and do play a crucial role in its evaluation. But Cole parts company with the constructivists when he asserts that it is impossible to understand which frontier knowledge wins a place in the core without first considering the cognitive characteristics of the contributions. He concludes that although the focus of scientific research, the rate of advance, and indeed the everyday making of science are influenced by social variables and processes, the content of the core of science is constrained by nature. In Making Science, Cole shows how social variables and cognitive variables interact in the evaluation of frontier knowledge.

This book studies the relationship between institutionalism and schizophrenia in the lives of mental patients. The authors observed schizophrenic patients in three different mental hospitals over a period of eight years. Their conclusions are important for the better management of institutions and for the future of extra-mural mental health services. The lives of long-term schizophrenic patients are strictly limited by their institutionalised environments, which often produce negative effects. For example, patients are especially vulnerable to social understimulation, reacing with apathy and withdrawal. On the positive side, symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations may actually decrease during institutionalisation. The interesting approach to the positive and negative effects of institutionalisation on schizophrenics will give this book a wide readership in psychiatry, social psychology and the social sciences as well as among social workers, nurses and occupational therapists.
