Tavistock Press was established as a co-operative venture between the Tavistock Institute and Routledge & Kegan Paul (RKP) in the 1950s to produce a series of major contributions across the social sciences. This volume is part of a 2001 reissue of a selection of those important works which have since gone out of print, or are difficult to locate. Published by Routledge, 112 volumes in total are being brought together under the name The International Behavioural and Social Sciences Library: Classics from the Tavistock Press. Reproduced here in facsimile, this volume was originally published in 1961 and is available individually. The collection is also available in a number of themed mini-sets of between 5 and 13 volumes, or as a complete collection.

When scholarship presents the histories, belief systems, and ritual patterns of specific religious groups, it often privileges victorious and élite fractions of those communities to the detriment and neglect of alternative, dissonant, and resurgent voices. The contributions in this volume, which include case studies on various religious and academic contexts, illustrate the importance of listening to those alternative voices for the study of religion.

Reflections On The Silence Of God written by Bob E.J.H. Becking and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-02 with Religion categories.

In their recent book The Silent God, Marjo Korpel and Johannes de Moor presented a provocative view on the concept of divine silence in ancient Israel. In their view, divine silence can be explained as an answer to a variety of circumstances. Additionally, they opt for the view that divine silence needs to be answered by appropriate human conduct. The essays in this volume applaud and challenge their views from different perspectives: exegetical, ancient Near Eastern, semantic, philosophical etc. Some authors hint at the view that divine silence should be construed as an indication of divine absence. Korpel and De Moor give a learned response to their critics. Contributors include: Bob Becking, Joel Burnett, Meindert Dijkstra, Walter Dietrich, Matthijs de Jong, Paul Sanders, Marcel Sarot, Anne-Mareike Wetter, Marjo Korpel and Johannes C. de Moor.

The contributions of this volume discuss the legacy of Emmanuel Levinas’ philosophy. Examining critically the limits of his thinking, they also bear witness to its influence on contemporary philosophy, thus demonstrating the significance of his groundbreaking project of establishing ethics as first philosophy. In four parts, “First Philosophy, Phenomenology, and Ethics,” “Phenomenology and its Theological Turn?,” “Ethics and Aesthetics,” “Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, Deconstruction,“ the major themes in Levinas’ oeuvre are addressed, such as alterity, human dignity, religion, and communication. [Human – All Too Human. Phenomena of Being Human in the Horizons of Theological Interpretation of Life] Being human: This is an inexhaustible topic. It unfolds in a multitude of phenomena. The most familiar and the most natural is also the most mysterious. Religion, art, theology, philosophy and literature have been working on the phenomena of human existence since time immemorial. In 14 contributions from various theological disciplines, the anthology takes up the question of being human and approaches it through the examination of characteristic phenomena in which it emerges what constitutes the human being, what distinguishes it and what its problems are. Theology becomes an attentive diagnostician of the everyday world and places the Human, All Too Human in the light of the Gospel. The essays are accompanied by a thematic series of sermons on the same phenomena of human existence. Mit Beiträger von Reinhard Achenbach, Michael Beintker, Albrecht Beutel, Corinna Dahlgrün, Karl-Wilhelm Dahm, Hans-Peter Großhans, Konrad Hammann, Christina Hoegen-Rohls, Erhard Holze, Corinna Körting, Annina Ligniez, Hermut Löhr, Reinhard Müller, Peter Oestmann, Traugott Roser, Perry Schmidt-Leukel, Christoph Schwöbel, Joachim von Soosten, Philipp Stoellger, Holger Strutwolf und Jürgen Werbick.
