Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Der Tabellenband enthält die Daten zum empirischen Teil der gleichnamigen Studie. Zum besseren Verständnis wurde die Einleitung dieser Studie (Bestellnummer 38506953) hier übernommen. Die repräsentative, vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Wissenschaft in Auftrag gegebene Studie von Niketta/Volke zu „Rock und Pop in Deutschland“ belegt, dass nur circa 6% aller Rock- und Popbands in Deutschland als „Professionals“ arbeiten. Die übrigen Bands bezeichnen sich selbst als „Amateure“ oder „Semi-Professionals“, können also ihren Lebensunterhalt nicht allein mit Hilfe der Musik bestreiten. Fällt der Traum, der Wunsch und/oder das Ziel, dies tun zu können, somit der Vorstellung, sich einer „brotlosen Kunst“ hinzugeben, zum Opfer? Den eigenen Traum zu realisieren, ist durchaus möglich, bedarf aber neben eines sehr hohen Maßes an Glück - schließlich werden sich nicht sämtliche Bands mit professionellen Zielen auf dem Markt platzieren können - vieler Kenntnisse zu den äußeren Rahmenbedingungen, also dem System, das einem diesen Traum einerseits erst ermöglicht, ihn andererseits aber auch zerstören kann. Bei aller Träumerei vom Rock- und Popstarsein bedarf es also realitätsnaher Auseinandersetzung mit den musikökonomischen Mechanismen und Strukturen sowie zielgerichteten Handelns, das sich sowohl auf die Theorie und Praxis der eigenen Kunst bezieht als auch wiederum auf ihre äußeren Rahmenbedingungen. Der Begriff „Professionalisierung“ ist in diese Strukturen eingebettet und meint, auf den einzelnen Musiker bezogen, die Aneignung von Kompetenzen und Fachwissen und, auf die Band bezogen, die Anwendung bestimmter Mechanismen, um die Chancen zur Erreichbarkeit größerer Zielgruppen zu erhöhen. Dabei gibt es keine Kriterien, durch deren Beachtung die Umsetzung individueller Ziele von Musikern oder Bands garantiert werden kann. Vielmehr lässt die große Konkurrenz an Bands die Chancen für eine erfolgreiche Positionierung auf dem Markt schwinden. Der vorliegenden Arbeit liegen drei Hauptteile zugrunde, welche die Rock- und Popkultur aus unterschiedlicher Sicht beleuchten.
