Anthem Reissue written by Ayn Rand and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-06 with Individuality categories.

Written with all the power and conviction that made THE FOUNTAINHEAD and ATLAS SHRUGGED classics of American letters, Ayn Rand's ANTHEM is a hymn to man's independent spirit and to the highest word in the human language -- the word "Ego." ANTHEM tells the story of a man who rediscovers individualism and his own "I" It is a world of absolute collectivization, a world where sightless, joyless, selfless men exist for the sake of serving the State; where their work, their food, and their mating are prescribed to them by order of the Collective's rulers in the name of society's welfare. It is a world which lost all the achievements of science and civilization when it lost its root, the independent mind, and reverted to primitive savagery a world where language contains no singular pronouns, where the "We" has replaced the "I," and where men are put to death for the crime of discovering and speaking the "unspeakable word." ANTHEM presents not merely a frightening projection of existing trends, but, more importantly, a positive answer to those trends and a weapon against them, a key to the world's moral crisis and to a new morality of individualism -- a morality that, if accepted today, will save us from a future such as the one presented in this story.

Samuel Sebastian Wesley A Life written by Peter Horton and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-03-04 with Music categories.

Peter Horton paints a detailed picture of the life and career of this remarkable man whose output includes such favourites as 'Blessed be the God and Father' and 'The wilderness'. Born into one of England's best-known families, Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-76) was not only the foremost organist and church musician of his generation, but a vigorous campaigner for higher standards in cathedral music. He was also a troubled, difficult character, and accounts of his abrasive personality or anecdotes about his fishing exploits have tended to obscure his very real achievements as a composer. Peter Horton has drawn on a wide range of source material to produce a detailed account of Wesley's life and career as he moved from cathedral to cathedral in search of an unattainable ideal, his youthful idealism gradually giving way to the cynicism and disillusion familiar to those who encountered him late in life. He also examines his development as a composer and presents a study of his complete output (including the many non-church works) against the background of his restless career and in a wider European context. The book is illustrated by a generous selection of musical examples and plates, and includes the most detailed list of works to appear in print.

God Save The King written by William H. Cummings and has been published by Forgotten Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-26 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Excerpt from God Save the King: The Origin, and History of the Music and Words of the National Anthem In 1879, Queen Victoria presented a church organ to the inhabitants of Pitcairn Island, who, it will be remembered, were descendants of the old mutineers of The Bounty. The instrument was conveyed to the island in Her Majesty's ship Opal, and on arrival at the island the organ was promptly transferred to the shore and placed in position. The inauguration was attended by the whole population, men, women and children, ninety-three in number. Then, by one of those picturesquely appropriate touches that strike so happily the mind of a com munity affected by a single impulse of feeling, the scene became at once as pathetic as beautiful, for hardly had the instrument been opened, than it and the people burst into the music of the National Anthem. The effect was touching in the extreme, as, verse by verse, the grand harmony of God save the Queen' rolled from the little church-house on the cliff, and was taken up by the ship's crew on the shore. It was no rehearsed scene, but a spontaneous and uncontrollable outburst of loyal gratitude: Her Majesty's gracious kindness, and such an unexpected and substantial proof of it, transported the Islanders with delight, and in the strains of the National Anthem they celebrated the glad renewal of their allegiance which they had feared was despised. The New Olive Branch 1820 And Selected Essays written by Mathew Carey and has been published by Anthem Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-15 with Business & Economics categories.

Mathew Carey was one of the most popular and influential economic writers of his day, but his work has been largely overlooked by modern writers, who tend to focus on more scholarly writers or on precursors to contemporary classical economics. Carey was a self-taught printer and publisher who rejected Adam Smith, led the early fight for protective tariffs, and wrote hundreds of newspaper articles to convince the public of the need to protect American manufacturers. “The New Olive Branch” is Carey’s most important, accessible, and sustained elaboration of his political-economic ideas, and is accompanied in this volume by portions of his “Addresses of the Philadelphia Society for the Promotion of National Industry” (1822), which offer further insight into his rejection of classical economics.

The Grateful Dead rose out of San Francisco's '60s underground rock scene with an unprecedented sound and image. Its members steeped in rock folk classical and blues; their instrumental prowess; and their refusal to bow to commercial conventions helped originate jam band music. Unapologetic in its advocacy of drug use as a means toward mind expansion the Dead helped catapult psychedelic music. After performing at the Monterey International Pop Festival and Woodstock the group became iconic without ever scoring a hit single. A large devoted fan base ä Deadheads ä began to follow the band everywhere. The group suffered a tragedy when bandleader Jerry Garcia slipped into a coma in 1986 but returned the next year with a top-selling album and surprise hit single Touch of Grey. By 1993 the Dead was the top-grossing live act in the United States. The band ended when Garcia died in 1995 but the music lives on with a stream of live releases. In ÊGrateful Dead FAQÊ Tony Sclafani examines the band's impact and influence on rock music and pop culture. This book ventures into unexplored areas and features a host of rare images making it a must-have for both Deadheads and casual fans.
