Taking stock of Yiddish literature in 1939, critic Shmuel Niger highlighted the increasing number and importance of women writers. However, awareness of women Yiddish writers diminished over the years. Today, a modest body of novels, short stories, poems and essays by Yiddish women may be found in English translation online and in print, and little in the way of literary history and criticism is available. This collection of critical essays is the first dedicated to the works of Yiddish women writers, introducing them to a new audience of English-speaking scholars and readers.

Spatiality at the Periphery in European Literatures and Visual Arts analyzes the impact migrations, both internal and external, have on Europe’s literary and visual representations in the nineteenth to twenty-first centuries. The volume aims to subvert a centripetal reading of European cultural production by including peripheral thinkers, writers, and visual artists operating in transcultural contexts. The essays highlight and investigate the fertile artistic discourses generated in the spatial peripheries outside of Europe or its inner peripheries. The volume addresses the need for geocritical readings that overcome the engrained dichotomy of centers-peripheries. By doing so, the book brings a more nuanced approach to national literatures and proposes the idea of “contact zones of imaginative interaction”.

Sonnenuntergang Auf Eisig Blauen Wegen written by Armin Eidherr and has been published by V&R unipress GmbH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Jewish diaspora in literature categories.

The book analyzes the ropes of tradition that characterize Yiddish Literature and are fundamental for the understanding of any literary work in Yiddish (levels of intertextuality) as well as the thematization of language and Diaspora characterizing all Yiddish works (discourse levels). It follows a chronological outline of the history of Yiddish literature from the Middle-Ages up to the present. The centrally time-frame treated spans from the 1880s until the beginning of the 21st Century, i.e. it extends from the beginning of a modern Yiddish Literature up to that critical point where clear predictions about its future are not yet possible. In this outline the inter-war period moves into the center where Yiddish modernism has achieved a climax as a result of the dispute on divergent concepts of identity and ideology. - The incision of the Shoah and its impact on Yiddish culture are treated in central examples (Jacob Glatstein, Melech Ravich, Abraham Sutzkever and so on). Also are discussed motivic examples, by which are shown once again exemplarily all the mayor trends in Yiddish literature to the present. Finally current trends in Yiddish Literature, but also in Yiddish Studies, are analysed.

Orte Der Grausamkeit written by Christa Karpenstein-Eßbach and has been published by Wilhelm Fink Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-08 with Cruelty in literature categories.
