Energy security, at the heart of energy policy, has become central to the dynamics of international relations. Political turmoil has overwhelmed many oil and gas producing countries, forcing them to adapt their national energy policies according to this continuous change. Specifically, because of the wars and instability in the Middle East and the Ukrainian crisis, global energy security is no longer guaranteed. One of the foremost experts on the energy industry, Daniel Yergin, identifies energy security as “the availability of sufficient supplies at affordable prices.” He also comments that every country interprets the definition of energy security with its own dynamics. In practice, the definition of energy security is polysemic and the topic of energy security is being explored daily, under the lens of numerous new studies, by scholars, energy experts, government officials, activists, and journalists.

Protection Of Sexual Minorities Since Stonewall written by Phil C.W. Chan and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-13 with Law categories.

The Stonewall Riot in New York in 1969 marked the birth of the sexual minority rights movement worldwide. In the subsequent four decades, equality and related rights on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity have been enshrined in many African, Asian, Australasian, European and North American countries, thanks to better informed discourses of the natures of sexual orientation, gender identity, equality and rights that systematic scientific and socio-legal research has generated. Discrimination, harassment and persecution on grounds of a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, however, continue to pervade the laws and social norms in all developed and developing countries. In tribute to the courage of those who participated in the Stonewall Riot, this book examines the progress and stalemate in various countries on five continents, as well as in the development of international law, concerning the rights of persons belonging to sexual minorities. This book covers issues including homophobic bullying and gay–straight alliances in schools; the merits and problems that legislation prohibiting hate speech on grounds of sexual orientation presents; criminal justice systems in relation to male rape victims and to criminalisation of HIV exposure and transmission; the development of sexual minority rights, from historical and socio-legal perspectives, in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Zimbabwe; the lives of transgender persons in Asian countries; the evolution, operation and impact of international and domestic refugee laws on sexual orientation and gender identity as grounds for refugee status and asylum; and the conflicts between law, religion and sexual minority equality rights that inhere in the same-sex marriage debate in Ireland. This book was previously published as a special double issue of The International Journal of Human Rights.

Sexual rules and regulations are among society?s oldest yet it is only in recent decades that this once-stigmatized field has become the focus of scholarly attention. This volume, which includes some of the most thought-provoking and hard-to-find essays in the field, covers a diverse range of topics from sexual orientation and gender identity to intersexuality and commercial sex, and from HIV/AIDS and trafficking to polygamy. Through historical, political and critical-theoretical lenses, and through a global focus, the selections ask how we conceptualize the groups and acts subjected to sexual regulation and how regulations in the field implicate and produce understandings of sexuality and identity. By placing this variety of works together, Sexuality and Equality Law invites fresh insights into commonalities and synergies across regulatory arenas that are often isolated from one another. The volume?s introduction situates all of these works in the broader field and offers readers an extensive bibliography.

Asian Values Western Dreams written by Greg Sheridan and has been published by Allen & Unwin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-10 with Social Science categories.

Asian Values, Western Dreams provides a provocative examination of the cultural relationship between Asia and the West. It asks a simple question: how do Asian societies maintain their cultural uniqueness in the face of Western cultural, economic and military power, in the face of globalisation? In the wake of the regional economic crisis, Sheridan examines lives and societies in stress and transition. He draws on hundreds of interviews across Asia and the United States, from Presidents and Prime Ministers to beggars and housewives, from civil servants and traders to politicians and prostitutes. He challenges popular interpretations from Western gurus such as Sam Huntington, Francis Fukuyama and former Hong Kong governor, Chris Patten. Instead Sheridan chases Asian Values down the houtungs (lane ways) of Beijing and across the kampungs of Malaysia, into the old colonial cities of India and out to the smallest village in the Philippines countryside. He draws on a wide range of scholarship and twenty years experience working in the region to offer an ambitious, region-wide interpretation of the Asian Values debate. A mixture of travel writing and cultural and political analysis, Asian Values, Western Dreams offers insights into relations between Asian nations, as well as between Asia and the West. Whether for the executive or student, the Western traveller or the Asian reader interested in learning about their neighbours, Asian Values, Western Dreams is an indispensable guide to the new Asia.

Insolvency law reform has become a subject of public urgency in many countries in the past two decades and particularly in much of Asia over the last ten years. The book comprises two introductory chapters dealing with issues such as legal culture and cross-border insolvency, before examining the fourteen principal jurisdictions in the region.
