Geburtstages ein Symposium mit dem »Scheitern diktatorischer Legitimationsmustern und der Zukunftsfähigkeit der Demokratie« beschäftigte, aus dem der vorliegende Band hervorgegangen ist, knüpft daher nahtlos an die Erkenntnisinteressen an, die im Zentrum des Werks von Walter Euchner stehen. Ausgehend von der Prämisse, daß das Scheitern rechter und linker Diktaturen im weltweiten Kontext neben einer Fülle von innen- und außenpolitischen Faktoren zum Teil auch aus den diktatorischen Legitimationsmustern selbst zu erklären ist, werden in diesem Band zum ersten Mal in vergleichender Perspektive am Beispiel der Sowjetunion unter Lenin und Stalin, der DDR, der VR Jugoslawiens und Chinas sowie der türkischen Republik unter Atatürk einerseits und des »Dritten Reiches«, der Diktatur Mussolinis, des Ständestaats in Österreich, der autoritären Regime Pilsudskis in Polen, Salazars in Portugal, Perons in Argentinien und Parks in Südkorea andererseits drei Fragen systematisch untersucht: 1. Worin liegt der Unterschied und die Übereinstimmung in den diktatorischen Grundlagen linker und rechter Diktaturen? 2. Warum vermochten es beide Linien und ihre jeweiligen Varianten nicht, eine dauerhafte Herrschaftsordnung zu etablieren? 3.
