Sendo a morte parte da condição humana, o que e como fala sobre ela a nossa literatura infantil? Qual o papel e a importância das narrativas que abordam tema tão sensível? Podem as crianças lidar com o sofrimento causado pela morte? Essas questões motivaram a autora a analisar a abordagem dos temas da morte, do morrer, da perda e do luto em livros da literatura infantil brasileira contemporânea disponibilizados no mercado. Nessa trajetória, propõe-se a reflexão sobre a concepção "infantilizada" das crianças, que fragiliza sua autonomia, e sobre a noção equivocada de que não são capazes de lidar com o sofrimento e, por isso, devem ser poupadas do contato com a morte, inerente à vida. Ao partir de argumentos que buscam desconstruir a noção vigente sobre a literatura enquanto elemento ilustrativo, ou ainda as perspectivas estritamente utilitaristas ou terapêuticas, a autora defende e reconhece a relevância da literatura para as ciências humanas e sociais. Se narrar faz parte da condição humana, assim como a constatação de nossa finitude, nossas narrativas trazem indiscutível capacidade de reorganização, de ressignificação de experiências de vida, de conhecimento do humano. Contudo, para além dessa dimensão, é a literatura recurso inestimável para o desenvolvimento do pensamento crítico e ético, para a inserção cultural, social e política, portanto com potencial de possibilitar novos caminhos. Num movimento recíproco, lemos e somos lidos pelos textos e pelas imagens; construímos nossas narrativas ao mesmo tempo em que elas nos constroem. E, nesse sentido, nosso momento histórico é uma folha em branco que traz em si o potencial de escrevermos as próximas linhas, páginas, capítulos... até o fim.
