Home Schooling in China seeks to provide a better understanding of the social movement of home schooling in China. In this book, the author addresses several major themes of home education, including marketization, social stratification, culture, religion, Confucianism, gender policy, gender, and home schooling. This book draws a broad attention to the in-depth information to the relationship of marketisation, social stratification, and home education in China. It offers an implication for a better understanding not only for influences of religion (e.g. Christianity) but also the effects of Confucianism on the growth of home education in China. With a strong theoretical foundation, the book comprehensively untangles the key possible factors that shape China’s social movement of home education. The book offers a background on theories and research methodology, as well as reports on empirical studies that analyse the influences of marketisation on home schooling, social stratification, and the development of home schooling. This book is ideal reading for academics, researchers, and postgraduate students in the fields of Confucianism, social class, gender, and education in China.

The literature in relation to home schooling grounded in empirical research and focusing on gender role and the impacts of social class has been neglected and unexplored. Home schooling is at an initial period, for the public, researchers, media and educational authorities in China it is mysterious and even abnormal or odd. This book seeks to bring a rich body of qualitative data to provide in-depth information in relation to the demographic characteristics of home schooling parents, the motivations for home schooling in China, the process of practicing it and its relevant academic and social outcomes. Learning with Mothers examines the social difference in terms of social class in the process of home schooling and also takes account of gender difference in terms of parental involvement, aiming to answer the questions about home schooling, such as: - Who are practicing home schooling for their children? - Why do parents choose to home school their children? - How are parents involved in their home schooling? - What is accomplished in doing so? This book is the first book in relation to home schooling in China. This book will be essential reading for researchers, postgraduate students and Chinese parents with in-depth information in relation to summary of updated literature on home schooling in China.

This book contains the compilation of studies from a 5-year project aimed at improving the Chinese teaching and learning as a second language, for non-Chinese speaking preschoolers in Hong Kong. In this project, a home-school-community model was used in an attempt to address the teaching and learning of Chinese for non-Chinese speaking preschoolers, moving from a traditional school centred teaching approach to a holistic approach. This allows them to learn in the same space and environment on the same topics, creating an inclusive classroom that does not compromise the teaching and learning of Chinese for both local and non-Chinese speaking preschoolers. Issues such as medium of instruction, language progression, silent period, multicultural teaching assistants, multilingual learning facilitators, parent changes, and effective teaching are studied and discussed.

Trilingualism In Education In China Models And Challenges written by Anwei Feng and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-26 with Education categories.

This book examines language policies and practices in schools in regions of China populated by indigenous minority groups. It focuses on models of trilingual education, i.e. education in the home language, Putonghua (Mandarin Chinese, the national language), and English (the main foreign language). Special attention is given to the study of the vitality of the minority home language in each region and issues relating to and the effects of the teaching and learning of the minority home language on minority students’ acquisition of Mandarin Chinese and English and on their school performance in general. The book also examines the case of Cantonese in Guangdong, where the local Chinese ‘dialect’ is strong but distant from the mainstream language, Putonghua. It takes a new approach to researching sociolinguistic phenomena, and presents a new methodology that emerged from studies of bi/trilingualism in European societies and was then tailored to the trilingual context in China. The methodology encompasses policy analysis and community language profiles, as well as school-based fieldwork, and provides rich data that facilitate multilevel analysis of policy-in-context.

The essays in this volume provide a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary look at changes in Chinese literacy education from ancient times to the modern day. Together, the essays address a wide array of topics, including early Chinese literacy development, children’s literature, foreign translated literature, and uses of information technology to teach Chinese. This authoritative text brings clarity and precision to the field and serves as a vital core resource for those who want to expand their understanding of Chinese literacy education. Its scope is unmatched even in academic literature in the Chinese language.

This book presents the experiences of Chinese Language researchers in Singapore to Chinese Language researchers and teachers in other countries and regions, such as the USA, the UK and Asia, that are home to a large number of learners, young and old. As such, the innovative ideas it provides can be applied in practising teachers’ classrooms to promote more effective and efficient student learning. Beyond pedagogical innovations, the book also includes papers on the assessment of Chinese Language learning and teacher literacy – two areas that have been largely neglected by the Chinese Language research and teaching communities, not only here in Singapore, but also around the world. This book, the sequel to “Teaching Chinese Language in Singapore: Retrospect and Challenges” (Springer, 2016), is future-oriented, highlighting ideas that merit further attention from researchers and practitioners alike.

Cross Cultural Schooling Experiences Of Chinese Immigrant Families written by Shijing Xu and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-28 with Education categories.

This book introduces the concept of reciprocal educational learning among cultures with very different historical and philosophical origins. The concept of reciprocal learning grows out of a four year study of immigrant Chinese family narrative experiences in a Western context. This book captures the lived moments of such transitional lives both in and out of school settings to demonstrate why a child would appear and disappear from different caregivers’ purview. Through the narrative lens of student and family life, the study illustrates the intersection of Confucian and Western philosophies of education and how their interaction creates complications as well as benefits for both traditions, hence, the idea of reciprocal learning.
