Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2016 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Film und Fernsehen, Note: 1,3, Leuphana Universitat Luneburg, Veranstaltung: Kulturgeschichte des Wissens, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zehn Jahre nach dem Volkermord in Ruanda kam im Jahr 2004 eine Vielzahl an Filmen auf, die sich mit dem ruandischen Genozid auseinandersetzten. Darunter der 2005 erstmalig in Deutschland erschienene Film "Hotel Ruanda" des Iren Terry George, der auf der wahren Geschichte des uberlebenden Hotelmanagers Paul Rusesabagina fut. Der Film konzentriert sich vor dem Hintergrund des Genozids insbesondere auf das individuelle Schicksal von Paul und seiner Familie. Dieser Ansatz lasst die erinnerungskulturwissenschaftliche Forschungsfrage aufkommen, inwieweit die im Film dargestellte individuelle Perspektive des Hotelmanagers Paul Rusesabagina es vermag, eine kulturelle Erinnerung an den ruandischen Genozid zu konstruieren. Neben der formulierten Frage soll zudem geklart werden, inwieweit es sich bei "Hotel Ruanda" um einen Erinnerungsfilm handelt. Als methodische Grundlage dient das von Astrid Erll und Stephanie Wodianka herausgegebene Sammelwerk "Film und kulturelle Erinnerung. Plurimediale Konstellationen," in welchem die Autoren betonen, dass es sich bei einem Erinnerungsfilm um ein "gesellschaftlich und plurimedial ausgehandeltes Phanomen" handelt, das zwar als Beitrag zur Erinnerungskultur aspiriert werden kann, jedoch erst in der Rezension zu einem veritablen Erinnerungsfilm wird. Aus diesem Grund wurde eine ausschlielich filmimimmanente Analyse zu kurz greifen, sodass die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse aus der Filmanalyse in dieser Arbeit noch von einer filmtranszendierenden Untersuchung gestutzt werden. Im Mittelpunkt der filmimmanenten Analyse steht einerseits die Ebene der Asthetik, bestehend aus der zu analysierenden audiovisuellen Gestaltung und Ikonografie des Films und andererseits die Ebene der Narration. In Critique of Black Reason eminent critic Achille Mbembe offers a capacious genealogy of the category of Blackness—from the Atlantic slave trade to the present—to critically reevaluate history, racism, and the future of humanity. Mbembe teases out the intellectual consequences of the reality that Europe is no longer the world's center of gravity while mapping the relations among colonialism, slavery, and contemporary financial and extractive capital.
